ANC set to scrap e-tolls

My mother said something like there are no alternative routes and until there are it cannot go ahead. Then i saw on E news that it is going to cost more to run the system than they will take in.

Also they have no plan to nail the 70000-150000 people who won't be paying. E-toll they reckon won't happen this year if it happens at all.

Then a mate told me they tried a similar thing in germany and it failed, now we know the germans run shyte well so if they cannot make it work how will we? Granted all of this could be rubbish but i hope it's not :D. I guess only a fail government like the anc could implement a system that uses more money than it makes :D.

Even if it's true, at the cost of what? It's only a matter of which way we will be raped. They'll find another way to get their money in which we will have much less of a say, be it through increasing VAT, income tax, fuel levies, or any other manner of taxation.

Very good slideshow from the WorldBank to Why the toll roads fail.
Another Australian audit showed the 'Winning bidders' of the CityLink and EastLink toll roads inflated the traffic numbers. Kapsch was the winner there too? ( although working, the PPP projects were a complete failure)

Does SANRAL have a 5.9Ghz license from ICASA ?

Every day I wonder. Who votes for these idiots?

The Sunday Independent has learnt that the ANC is considering roping in the Public Investment Corporation (PIC), which manages the pension funds of government employees, to help find alternative funding.

With all due respect to the three journalists who were involved in the publication of this article, I think you have bought into some cleverly crafted cANCer propaganda.

I do not believe for one moment that the cANCer's true intention is to use further pension money to pay off SANRAL's debt, this rumour is designed to garner support for etolling by government employees of which there are a great many.

To put it another way, the cANCer is putting this rumour out there, suggesting that if etolling is scrapped there will be no alternative but to (again) dip into the pension money of government employees, the effect of such a statement is easy to predict: government employees (many of whom are no doubt COSATU members) will vehemently oppose such a solution and will stop lending their support to COSATU and instead will start saying that etolling must go ahead.

This is a propaganda article you all fell for...

They won't scrap it... there's gonna be a hell of a court battle most probably. As someone said, the battle will be won but the war will be lost... because of various reasons.

Kapsch is a worldwide cancer.. that's why they are in Austria, to fly under the EU radar

Maybe the government can get rid of the corrupt fuxckers in charge, and get the money from perhaps here:

Public servants have illegally received more than R40.8 billion in fraudulent social grant claims between August 2009 and December 2011.

or perhaps

More than R20 billion spent by national and provincial departments has been found to have been unauthorised, irregular, wasteful and fruitless expenditure.

or how about this?

The others – North West, Northern Cape, Free State, Eastern Cape, Limpopo and Mpumalanga – were unable to explain expenditures worth 4.56 billion euros. It is unclear whether fraud, corruption, misspending, bad management, or a mistake in the audit is the culprit.

So in +- 2 years, our lovely government has wasted [aka Stolen] more than R60 billion and thats what I could find in a quick 2 min googling session, i wonder how much that would be if really dig deep...

THE ANC, SANCRAL, and GOV can all go circle jerk each other, i wish we could take gov to court over this misadministration of OUR funds. Bunch of fscxing thieves !!!!

Doubt they would scrap it.
Didn't they invest umkonto's pension funds into this?
Thought I read that somewhere.
Um... well if they had we would have a very different situation on our hands.

They invested the government pension in SANRAL, so that's the pension of every government worker that didn't take a private one. So policemen, teachers, doctors and other government workers.

Well if the government has the final say and since the ANC is the largest proponent of government then why all the court cases? Just scrap the tolls if they want to.

The government (ANC majority) started the e-toll process and wasted billions of public money. Whether the e-tolls are scrapped or not billions of rands of public money has already been wasted by the government (ANC majority).

If they scrap it, it just means they have found another way to screw us!

I think that is the whole idea... to find a more effective (cheaper) way of getting the money from the public. Why not just increase vehicle license costs and fuel levies?

What about all those ugly gantries they erected????!!

That must be SANRAL debt, or once the courts have found their conclusion [which, i would bet 1 months salary that something underhanded happened], someone should be hold accountable, and if needed, send to prison.

I'm sure the contract for the collection also has some shaky aspects to it, so that should be declared null and void, and the Austrain company can go f themselves...

Does anyone have the feasability study reports and the tender process ducumentation? The feasability study should be public as it must have been presented for public comment.

OUTA have already requested all the project documentation and the motivation to Govt

This 'Confidential' doc describes the whole GFIP project and who studied what and what assumptions were made.
It also describes Fuel Levy, Is the project cancellable... etc.... quite a doc TBH

The Govt used the 'Big Mac' index to work out prices that were the same as other countries that use ORT!
