Ordered myself a 13" MBP yesterday, so I guess I'll be visiting this section of the forum a bit more in the future.

Any tips for a complete Mac n00b?

Yup wipe it and install Windows 7 on it.. xD Lol just kidding, I've been having fun playing arround with my hackintosh.. Won't trade in windows for it.. But must say it's really fun playing arround with it.. Yes agree getting iLife '11 and Office 2011 is a must..

Once you go Mac you never go back.
Like the bible says "When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me . . . and bought a mac." :D

Quicksilver, perian, applejack . . . the rest depends on what you want to do.

I doubt that the Apostle Paul (?) was thinking about Mac when he said that! :D Good one though, bwana... :D

According to your statement, Im in pre-primary... Not anywhere close to affording MBP.

Love the "When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me . . . and bought a mac." thing...

Mac's come with OSX and iLife so it should be on the machine already. +1 for Applejack and Perian... I'd add Flip4Mac, iWork or Office are also good suggestions for obvious reasons, but much like your first PC, you'll find the apps you need and like as you go.

There was a similar thread running a while back with some really useful suggestions on apps to install on your new Mac... http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/290135-Ideal-Mac-Software

That is so wrong... I've used both... extensively... and I'd never replace my PC with a Mac... might supplement it with one though... lol...

That is the answer. I run Windows7 on a Dell Studio and my Mac is for all things Mac. So I have the best of both worlds.
You will get iLife 11 with your new Mac. I love iPhoto and have Aperture on trial.
But congrats, you have made a good and wise choice.

Got my first macbook pro 15 on saturday, can't get enough of it
