Nvidia has decided to block the use of an nvidia-gpu for physx, when a non-nvidia gpu is detected in the system.

So. If you own a Radeon 4870X2 (Display card) and a Nvidia GTX260 (Physx) - you outta luck.

More on this: HardOCP

Should Nvidia be told to shove its GPUs up its a-hole?

I will never buy an Nvidia card again, nor an SLI-capable board EVER AGAIN !!!

Radeon HD5850, here I come !!

A few years back the story went that no-one would buy an ATI card for anything.

What about those with ATI based motherboards that have onboard GPUs??? Guess I'm with ATI so I'm sticking with ATI. Can't wait to get my Intel i5 upgrade.

That's really lame. I considered an ATI+Nvidia Physx setup. I'll just be getting ATI then. =/

What is ATI's called? If you can tell me that... As I haven't actually heard of it

Havok...

Possibly the scariest thing is that they are preventing the owner of a Nvidia GPU, of using it.
AFAIK, you aren't allowed to do that.

They advertise their products as PhysX capable, so one goes out and buys a 9600GSO (or whatever) to do the PhysX. Now they say "thanks for buying our product, be won't let you use it for what we advertise it capable of. You're welcome to purchase a R4500 card to that for you, though."

This is so underhanded - it's not even funny. At all.

Well, seems like Nvidia is creating very unfavorable conditions. It seems like you can either have ATI, or you can have Nvidia...

With OpenCL, CUDA is pretty much useless now. and since games can just opencl to do physics, I can assume that Nvidia's Physx won't be much use.

Nvidia is getting it's fingers very close to a hot stove...

Well it's just bad.
They even preventing CPU-based PhysX now. The most they do with PhyX for CPUs is running it on 1 core.
Since the i7 is more than good enough to do PhysX, they are ruining it for everyone.

I WAS going to buy a 9600GT for PhysX, but now I am refusing anything Nvidia. Anything.

Sigh. Oh well. With ATIs gpus giving much more bang for buck, nvidia are just gonna lose sales. It's like they're telling us not to buy their gpus.

Well it seems they telling you to not buy their cheaper cards, anyway.

There's no way I'm putting more than 3500 on a card just because it "could" do PhysX, only to have Nvidia disable it.

They're pathetic, obviously.

who cares about physX anyway when you can get so much more speed with ATI cards?
