With no sight of an Nvidia gt300 card coming out before christmas, and with the gt 240 looking like a pretty shyte card (ATI will make sure Nvidia can't compete with them with the gt 240), I think more people are going to bring home an ATI this year then a Nvidia.

Nvidia might be very close to what ATI did with the 2000 series.

The thing is, most people go to sites like THG and notice that Nvidia cards are usually ahead by 5fps at ridiculous resolutions. Though, I found that ATI have much better image quality, is better priced and at normal resolutions gives Nvidia a run for its money.
 
Don't know if you guys know the history, but the guys who created GeForce were engineers from the somewhat-totally-dead SiliconGraphics. They were kings of proprietary hardware. I wonder if that mentality came with them.

This also seems to apply to their onboard solutions. Last time I was checking video cards was several years back when ATI had nothing on Nvidia, so when it came time to buy myself a new machine with integrated graphics I had the same mentality towards ATI I had before. Until all big test showed that the ATI was actually putting out better image quality in the hardware-accelerated HD playback on the 790GX chipsets. So even in integrated graphics processors your story holds true, not only in quality by pricing as well.

not anymore, Ati's new cards had handle resolutions far better then the Nvidia's nowadays. The ATI just has a stigma that they can't seem to shake off. this maybe changing though.

Personally, I've realised that ATI is slowly making a come back to the laptop market, and with that, the desktop parts will follow suit.

My friend who was an avid Nvidia fan, he loved nvidia, and I convinced him to get a laptop with an ATI graphics card (HD4650) he's more then impressed! ATI and AMD might be making the comeback no one expected :)

You are clearly not grasping what I was trying to insinuate;)
THAT review showed the 5870 constantly beating the GTX295 by quite a large margin....almost all other reviews shows the GTX295 ahead most of the time..understand now...? :)

so the HD 5870 matches or beats the Nvidia GTX295???? ZOMG! that means it is beating a graphics card with 480 processors. and that's not even with amd trying to kick ass (I wait to see what AMD does for the HD5890!). and you must remember that at current pricing, the GTX 285 loses out to the HD 5850(assuming the ATI costs R3300, the GTX285 costs R4300 odd, so that a R1000 difference, and the cheaper one beats it) by A LOT and the GTX 295 also loses out to the HD5870 by enough to make it stupid to buy anything else (assuming the ati costs R5000 and the GTX295 is R5400 odd).

now remember that the prices I use for the ATIs are the higher inflated prices, when comparing to the AMD recommended prices, nvidia is out classed in terms of performance, price, features (eye infinity, DX11), power consumption etc.

talk about a killer blow. Nvidia has more then just a fight on it's hands.

Which pretty much confirms what I said before. Don't get me wrong...the 5870 perform excellent and with mature drivers performance will improve even more:)
It is after all the fastest single GPU card in the world ATM :p
