well, this is very interesting, it seems like ATI is just plodding along and they just keep developing, while Nvidia has a big head, and they are focusing on the wrong stuff all together. Personally, i do hope AMD catches up with Intel, and ATI takes the market share from Nvidia. I know AMD will use the sudden cash injection for reach and development on their cpus, gpus and chipsets. Lets hope that AMD's bulldozer does what it's supposed to do and kicks a$$ and takes names.
Also, what's happening with Intel's larrabee? that thing seems to be just vapour wear by the looks of it.

What's ecen more infuriating, is that Nvidia, now that AMD released their DX11 card, are only now releasing their DX10.1 cards!!
They are the current ones just with DX10.1 capability!
They are a joke.

OMG did anyone see the size of the 5870? it's bladdy bigger than a GTX 295, and it's not even a dual GPU card!
if you look at the difference between a 4870 and a 4870X2, i can't imagine what a 5870X2 is gonna look like!

the HD 5870x2 isn't much bigger then the HD 5870
. but I think AMD made the card bigger to make it more upgradable in terms of ram size (possibly a 2gig variant coming out???). Also they might have space out things more, because, as we all know, the 4xxx series were all very very very hot, so this way you can make the cooler much bigger, so they can displace more air, and so your ram and gpu has more surface cooling area

Nvidia is overestimating the appeal of Physx - it's very cool tech but it's not that difficult to duplicate through other means. If they lock the channels of distribution devs aren't going to be willing to code a feature exclusively to reach only half (or less) the potential market when other alternatives exist. The same goes for CUDA.
Those re results make me wonder.....I haven't seen the 5870 beat the GTX 295 in any other review nearly that often and definitely not by such a large margin:erm:
Its a bad move by them. Stupid actually.

Well, Nvidia has always just been more popular then ATI because Nvidia always made their cards just a little faster then ATI's, and by now, people have it in their heads that Nvidia is only graphics card for them. ATI have always been a little more innovative with Video play back, and other features that are very nice, but won't really swing a buyers money that way.
However, with AMD ruling the roost, ATI has taken a rather different approach. They have retained all the nice features they had before, and added a few extra, but they really have focused in on refining the performance of the graphics card and making it more for gaming, with ncie little features that just make owning an ATI more worth while. Unlike Nvidia, ATI does most (if not all) of those features such as video encoding, and what not all for free because, well, that's what makes a company seem like they care.
Nvidia has always been more of an advertiser, they market their product like Intel does. So they are more popular. However, I can't see them going to get back the market share that they have been losing ever since they took a chunk out of ATI's in 2006 (the 8800series). Ati has been slowly, been taking more and more market share from Nvidia in the past few quarters. With no sight of an Nvidia gt300 card coming out before christmas, and with the gt 240 looking like a pretty shyte card (ATI will make sure Nvidia can't compete with them with the gt 240), I think more people are going to bring home an ATI this year then a Nvidia.
Nvidia might be very close to what ATI did with the 2000 series.

Dx11 and DirectCompute, will see the end of PhysX.
Propriety has never worked and Nvidia fumbled by buying Ageia in the first place. 3rd parties like Havok will probably use DirectCompute to calculate physics on the GPGPU, which means that both Nvidia and ATI will be on a level playing field.
PhysX will die.
