I hope someone can help me. I have a Huawei P20 which I try to connect to my vehicle Android Auto function. I can see my P20 with Bluetooth and it connects fine. But for some reason I cannot connect via WIFI, although the vehicle does have that feature. It is only able to connect with the cable but that does not justify the WIFI feature. The error message I get it "Wireless Phone Projection is not supported by the device". Any one maybe have some feedback on this?

  • Google Pixel or Samsung Galaxy device with Android 10 or higher.
  • Select Samsung Galaxy devices running Android 9.0 or higher (Galaxy S8, Note 8)
  • Any Android smartphone running Android 11 or higher.

Wireless phone projection has to be enabled on your phone in android auto settings

For some reason I don't have that option in my android auto settings. Maybe my phone just don't support the wireless option? I have Android 10 on it...

Just use the cable. It's much more stable and your phone charges at the same time as well. I can't think of a single reason why you wouldn't want to use the cable rather. The whole point of Android Auto is that you can connect your phone and then tuck it away somewhere out of the way.

try with a newer Android phone and if it connects then you know the P20 is not compatible for some reason

1. Are you sure your vehicle supports AA wifi? Have you tried the wifi feature with a different phone (samsung etc)?

2. Try: enable "add wireless projection to settings" from Android Auto developer settings.
You can access it by tapping the version of Auto android 10 times, after that tap the 3 dots in the top-right corner and you should see "developer settings". From there enable " Add wireless projections to settings"

Yes, 100% the vehicle does support AA wifi. Unfortunately I will need to find someone with a newer phone to test. I only have this P20 and my wife has the P Smart

Thanks, I have now find the settings "Add wireless projections to settings" and enabled it. I will test it later and revert back with feedback.

Cant disagree more. Connecting your phone to a cable EVERY time you get in the car is a pita.

Wireless android auto is a game changer.

I added a motorola android auto wireless dongle to my car. Huge quality of life improvement and works flawlessly

I had endless issues in general with my P20. as much as I hate my S20, its better at android auto

I have a 2021 Toyota CHR (With Wifi) and a Samsung S21 Ultra but Android Auto only works with a cable for me

Huawei phones in general are troublesome with Auto Android.

This is funny because my Mate 10 Pro works better with my head unit and AA that my wife's Galaxy A71. It's not an oem head unit though, it's a [rather old- 2016] Kenwood touch screen.

I hate having to plug a cable in each time I get in to the car and the charge rate with 5v, 1a is also extremely slow and pointless.
When needing to charge my phone, I need to disconnect anyway and use my fast charger.

Wireless android auto + wireless fast charging would be ideal
