Android beating Apple, BlackBerry in smartphone war

I just want to thanks everyone who manifests the lunacy which is gadget fanboyism, you make me feel like the most intelligent dude in the room almost every day. ;)

Okay, so you are satisfied with the obvious outcome of your argument that Apple sells less but makes far more profits from customers like you? Reality is that your iPhone is not the premium product you are made to believe it is based on the high price. Who makes the stuff that goes into your iPhone? Apple? Nope ... mostly Samsung. An iPhone is a collection of parts made by their competitors and sold at a huge profit because Sir Ives designed the case and it is an APPLE. Who's being hoodwinked here? Apple manufactures zip, nadda, nothing. They rely on the same Samsung they are fighting in court to make their products. The factory that puts all the part together to make your iPhone - Foxconn - does the same for others too. Apple has their clients over a barrel. If pointing these things out makes me a fanboy then so be it.
 
It seems that Apple has made the same mistake with IOS it made so many times before: Create a great, revolutionary product and then limit / bully / close / get arrogant / get greedy until the competition leapfrogs them.

IOS was miles ahead of Android a few years ago, but right now I would no longer even consider an IPhone - one can get so much more for the same price if you go Android. Dropping youtube (and other competing products) in IOS6 is the latest in a string of self defeating acts.

I'm pretty sure Apple will continue to be successful in the space but the dominant player they will be no more.

Other examples of the same are the original mac, iMac and iTunes (which is much less dominant than a few years back).

Sony does the exact same thing: Betamax, minidisk, produo where all technically superior products that got beat by the more open competition due to greed and closed ecosystems.

You do realise they are not dropping youtube, they are just ending the co development of the current app and giving google full control to now build the app as they see fit, including allowing them to keep all the profits from advertising which building their own app would allow.

You are one of the few people on this site who isn't a fanboy. You just decide what you like based on the facts and your needs, and nothing more.

I own apple, android and blackberry devices. I don't give a rats a$$ who dominates who. As long as mine all work, I'm content.

So because Apple limit their OS to a single device (iPad, iPhone, iPod, iDon'tCare), Android need to stick to the same trend.

Google have the right idea, allowing other manufacturers to use their OS on various devices - the end result being a much broader user-base and marketing platform. The S2, S3 and One X are leaps and bounds ahead of the iPhone.

I was obviously trolling :D

I have a galaxy s3, because I like using android. I bought my mother an iPhone 4 ( not the S), got my dad an iPad.

I bought these devices because I knew they would like it.

iOS is easier to use, no doubt, and they're app market makes me feel at ease my dad wont burn down the house with his iPad.

The only thing that makes me sad, is people's unwillingness to try something only slightly more complicated, because they are afraid.

And if you were to count the number of droids shipped on the latest OS vs iOS 5? How about the number of true smartphones (Ie top of the range stuff, not your Galaxy pocket ace) shipped by each manufacturer? Or lets compare a top of the range droid released in October last year to the 4S in terms of sale numbers?

This is like saying GM has sold more cars this year than Honda, Merc or Mazda...No **** sherlock.

Don't feel so special, iPhone is still incredibly common. One of the most sold individual phones, especially in America. Also, a more accurate comparison would be to say that if your average smartphone was a Opel Astra, then iPhone is an Opel Astra with a Bentley logo strapped on it and sold at an exorbitant price so a minority of "elite" people can think that they are special.

Don't get me wrong there are some cases where iPhone could be argued to be worthwhile to buy. For instance, I might get one for my dad and my grandparents because it is so incredibly simple to use that my dad/grandparents who has never really worked with technology before can get used to it.

Another thing I rate everyone should do, is take a course in marketing. It is very informative at just how easily manipulated the masses are. The two people I quoted above are examples of people who have fallen for Apples marketing ploy, and it is just sad to see someone so obsessed with just a company. But hopefully though, the more people who are informed about it, the better equip they would be to make more informed decisions in what they buy.

Thank you for your post :) I would just like to inform you, that I own an Apple iPad, new iPod as well as iPhone, and I can assure you it has nothing to do with falling for their marketing ploy. I use them because I like the way it looks and works. For me, it is very easy to use, I have never had any trouble with any of my apple devices, so the reason I am a fan is because it suits my lifestyle and it works for me. It has absolutely nothing to do with marketing.
