Android beating Apple, BlackBerry in smartphone war

At present Samung = Android as far as comparisons with Apple currently goes. Soon Samsung will also produce Windows 8 phones. Consider then also how much of iPhone = Samsung components. A year or two from now Samsung will be so far ahead a Samsung vs Apple comparison will be futile.

But as I said before: People that is into Apple are so for valid reasons and will remain loyal. Nothing wrong with being part of a minority. As long as you are satisfied with your acquisition all is well. I believe the Galaxy Note is the best phone ever. I'm also part of a minority. So what?!

Well, yes and no. Samsung = the profitable portion of Android; but the numbers used in the thread encompass all brands, profitable or loss-making.

Soon Samsung will also produce Windows 8 phones.
They already make Windows Phone 7 and Bada phones, and they're meant to be working on some other oddball OS - and they'll be making Windows 8 devices.

Consider then also how much of iPhone = Samsung components.
Yeah I never got this. Samsung makes the best tablet screen in the world, sells it to Apple, then can't shift its own tablets (1.4m total sales to date). Why did they do that?

A year or two from now Samsung will be so far ahead a Samsung vs Apple comparison will be futile.
Well, there's always that pesky little profitability issue. Not to mention the numbers that came out in the court case weren't nearly as flattering as the picture they're trying t

But as I said before: People that is into Apple are so for valid reasons and will remain loyal.
Nothing to do with loyalty mate. You can't seem to get that.

Nothing wrong with being part of a minority.
Owning the biggest selling single smartphone on earth = a minority? Strange world.

As long as you are satisfied with your acquisition all is well. I believe the Galaxy Note is the best phone ever. I'm also part of a minority. So what?!
I thought Samsung = majority. So confused.

Cerebus, I said NOTE. Amongst Android/Samsung it is a M I N O R I T Y. Understood?

BTW ... Windows Phone 7 not the same as the new 8. Much more expected of 8 (and Samsung will be part of that too).

Ever wondered why Samsung doesn't release actual sales numbers?

Here's a preview:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2012/aug/10/samsung-apple-tablet-phone-sales-revealed

And some highlights:

Samsung has sold a total of 21m smartphones to carriers in the US since April 2010 and retailers have taken just 1.4m of the three tablets that Apple claims infringe its intellectual property, according to documents filed on Thursday in the bitter court battle between the two technology giants.

Its highest-profile handset, the Galaxy S2, has shipped a total of 4.1m across four models since its launch in the third quarter of 2011, while the Galaxy Nexus, the showcase phone for Google's Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich" software, saw 512,000 shipments from its launch in October 2011.

And as usual Horace Dediu has a great write up and figures:

It was a fairly successful phone iirc. Now the galaxy nexus, that could count as a minority phone. So awesome, and according to the reports only sold 500k units or so.

BTW ... Windows Phone 7 not the same as the new 8. Much more expected of 8 (and Samsung will be part of that too).
Yeah those resizable widgets are really going to turn things around for them.

Actually it does look cool, I hope they can make a go of it. Smartphone market becoming depressingly homogenous.

nothing to do with loyalty... Apple??
Have you looked at the growth rates for the iPhone? Roughly speaking every succeeding model sells the equivalent of all previous models combined. That means that the majority of iPhone buyers are first timers, and the growth comes at the expense of other manufacturers like Nokia and rim. So somewhere out there people are evaluating the possible smartphones and making a decision to try apple for the first time based on its features. Believe it or not that is actually happening.

Exactly: " ... but also raise the question of why it is so desperate to crush a company whose products sell so poorly in comparison."

This remains my main issue with Apple. Why all this? This is why I am starting to hate them because I hate all bullies. In this case the rich kid is bullying his most loyal partner to date ... just because he can and must show his superiority. Apple has become a disgusting rotten apple.

They aren't trying to crush them, just stop them infringing on their designs. They've been fairly generous in giving them alternatives for avoiding the lawsuit.

Oh please. Disgusting rotten apple? You have no idea what you are talking about. Apple has good products, sleek looking, and easy to use!! Haters gonna hate!!

You are way off base here. Apple warned Samung about their designs coping Apple's, Google also warned them. Apple even offered them a licensing deal. None of that stopped Samsung from trying to ride on their biggest customers coat tails. Now they have to face the music.

Apple bullying the poor small defenseless Samsung. LOL of course.

I posted this in another thread, worth a read -

Apple v. Samsung: The Trial Goes On, but It's Already Over

The patent trial of Apple v. Samsung has been fascinating to read about if you’re interested in either company’s inner workings. So far, we’ve learned that one Samsung executive freaked out about the iPhone, that Apple considered making a car and that Samsung’s 7-in. tablet spurred Apple’s interest in a smaller iPad.

But as the Loop’s Jim Dalrymple argues, beyond the juicy highlights, it seems the purpose of the trial — at least from Apple’s perspective — escapes most people:

This lawsuit isn’t about getting compensation for products that were released in 2007 or even 2011, it’s about protecting the products that will be released in 2013 and 2015 and beyond.

Dalrymple writes that Apple is no doubt planning more revolutionary products in the coming years (like a TV perhaps). The lawsuit is all about stopping Samsung now and sending a message to other companies about the ramifications of copying. That’s more important than the $2.5 billion for which Apple is suing.

It’s an astute observation, but I’d like to add to it: by taking the case this far, I think Apple already got what it wanted.

rest

This is about laying down a marker. Samsung has 12,000 gazillion products, Apple only a handful. Of course Apple will vigorously protect their innovations.

But what about the licensing deals Samung offered Apple but Apple just ignored? Without those Samsung patents there would be no iPhone. I'm on base.

You mean the deals that were triple what Samsung was offering everyone else for their FRAND patents?

Hater, fanboy ... all cool with me. I never said Apple has bad products ... you should read my posts before looking for pictures on Google Images. I'm saying Apple has turned into a bully. Even JStrike agreed with me the other day that Apple could/should have dealt with this differently. But you missed those posts too.

Amazing how quick those questioning Apple are called fanboys and haters by people that clearly miss the fact that they are guilty of exactly that ... protecting the honor of Apple against all comers.

The evidence coming out is becoming stronger daily that Samsung did indeed intentionally imitate apple's innovations down to the most minute ui/ux details. How would you have reacted if you had laboured to create an innovative product, then found that a competitor was gaining market success by emulating all of your design work? They have the right to protect their ip. What other route should they take? They have been warning Samsung for a long time now with no result.

Hypocrite much?

Brand loyalty is fine. I'm on my 2nd generation iPhone. I like the product. I don't like it because I think Droid or Windows Phone sucks. I don't have one because of marketshare.

All this flaming is a little pathetic. Good for you for picking product A, B, C. Trying to degrade others perception of their product doesn't make yours better.

Reminds me of my expat friends, posting and commenting with great judgement any negative news about SA, as if to keep justifying their exodus. Pathetic.
