Absolutely true

In some cases its because there is a hardware limitation of the older device prohibiting the new feature.
I do suspect that sometimes it is held back for product differentiation reasons (a less noble reason granted).

Either way it's better than giving no upgrade at all.

If that happens and they screw my criteria (2 years and fast updates) then I am on a par with most Android situations.

I do suspect that given Forstall's departure iOS is going to have a major user design change over the next 2 major releases
I suspect it will be more than skin deep affecting hardware as well.
It doesnt mean they will break my 2 year rule but it does mean that there is a greater probability.

Another fact: not all features of the latest ios is included for revisions of older models. Why don't Apple include all features in these updates?

A 3GS has 256mb of ram. That it can comfortably run 6.01 is nothing short of genius. Naturally there going to be half a dozen key exclusions but considering there around 400 new features between 4.3.5 and 6.01 it's an acceptable compromise.

I just want to know what race are they winning? If its a handset count then I concede, Android has beaten iOS in number of handsets.
All the PC manufacturers together also slaughter Apple while we are at it.

Lets compare apples with apples (sorry)

So Premium Android vs iPhone.

There is no question that Apple have some superb competitors in Samsung S3 (and the Nexus 4 but you cant get it here)

One can't claim 1 goal for an el cheapo Android device (with a old version of Android) and 1 goal for the Samsung S3. They all dont count 1 goal
It all depends what the objective is.

Google just want handsets with Android using their services
Apple want profitable sales. And lots of them. Pure numbers are not their game. Never has been.

Its possible that they can both achieve these objectives and both have a great holiday season.

The shoot out July to Sep between the Samsung Premium and the iPhone 4S was won by the Samsung Premium.
What would interest me is the October-December and the Jan-Mar shoot out between the S2/S3 and the iPhone 4S/5.

Of course once you get the Jan-Mar it starts to be unfair on Samsung (because of the S4 just as July-Sep was unfair on Apple)

It would be foolish to dismiss entry level Android devices.

The $80 entry level devices offer users an option to enter the eco-system, kit out the entire family for half the price of an iPhone. Once you're happy with your entry level android device, are you going to buy an android tablet or iPad?

The truth about this whole TV debate is that there isn't all that much money in it; not enough to consider it the Next Big Thing at least. Someone could probably have figured out the problem by now if they were highly motivated to; but the resistance and complexity at the content delivery level makes it just not worth their time. Google TV has been a debacle. Apple TV has fared better especially since the Appletv2 has 1080p for a $99 box but it's always been an experimental thing, and they've made that very clear.

Well the TV makers have to do something to sell new ones. The 3D thing fell flat <--- did not create the hype they wanted to. Now I guess they trying to coax people to buy TV's that can surf the net/play Youtube. Problem with Google TV was not lack of trying, mostly it was because all the media sites where blocking it. From Hulu to netflix and BBC.
