Android Eskom load shedding app

Hey Guys,

Spent the last 3 days and made an Eskom load shedding app. You can select your area (I have aggregated some of them for now) and receive notifications for load shedding in areas. Made it for me so it should be useful for you :)

Check it out and let me know what you think.

Hey Koeks

Beautiful app! I love the design and layout.

However, with the recommended areas, the app is a bit laggy when scrolling down on the Galaxy Note 3. It would have been nice if the recommended areas could have been a menu link and not on opening the app.

It's the Eskom schedule so I doubt it is 100% accurate. Each muni does seem to have it's own schedule tho.

Pity. Without Cape Town Muni it won't help me.

I received a warning that Loadsheding has started, but nothing detected for my area or something to that effect.
We are scheduled from 20:00.
Will I receive another noticed hour before loadsheding kicks in or was that the only notice?

You will get one 1 hour before your area sheds

I have added a reporting feature to try crowdsource some data on load shedding and help try rectify Eskoms useless schedule

Never got the 1 hour warning, KoeksGHT.

Edit:
It says no schedule is available, but there definitely is one on the Eskom site that is applicable.

Very nice. I'm all for function over form but I can really appreciated it when someone takes the time to focus on a sleek solid design.

I've seen one too many "have a look at my website/app" threads that looks it it was coded by a 1st year IT diploma student.

It's a nice app, I got a warning of load shedding and notification of when it would be finished.
What would be nice is a progress/busy indicator when you first start using the app because it seemed as if it was hanging
when looking for nearby areas.

In that case he should put that into an AsyncTask with a progress indicator or even a throbber.

You even have to put in a hack to do network on the main thread

Had to do some optimizations in the database :P Should be working better now.

Also the crowd sourcing notifications are working too. If enough people report certain areas I will send notification.

Just a shame municipalities do not stick to their schedules.

We had an outage this morning, but the app never alerted me. In fact, we were not even supposed to be shedded this morning.

Again, nice looking app but not of much use at this time for me.
