Android Eskom load shedding app

Just a shame municipalities do not stick to their schedules.

We had an outage this morning, but the app never alerted me. In fact, we were not even supposed to be shedded this morning.

Again, nice looking app but not of much use at this time for me.

It's a complete balls up. Crowd-sourced is the future!

It does not detect the schedule for Eastern Cape, Sunday's River Valley, Kirkwood

Everytime loadsheding is announced we can't access the Eskom site. Not sure if is too busy, but seems the app can't access it for the schedule either?
Our schedule is normally spot on.

Schedule busy updating again, updates weekly. Tho stage 3 is unpredictable

I have no power at home since yesterday.....

I posted link on my Facebook page.

Looks fab. ;)

Update : How sad is it that I find a load shedding app cool? What is the world coming to? *sniff sniff*

Ok, I'm going to handle this like one of my projects, so give honest feedback.
Great concept, promising interface. But 'Areas near me' is not returning anything, and 'current outages' returns too much. And not in alphabetical order. Sorting it would go a great way to making it more usable, and a province filter that defaults to your first selected province would clear the clutter.

As an aside - the crowdsourced concept is great, but maybe you should close the loop and add a second option that indicates that power has been restored.

(A very helpfull and promising app. Thanks.)

Nice app, and thanks, but info for my suburb is incorrect (Blairgowrie, joburg city power). Says we're scheduled for 16:00 to 18:30, when in fact we're 1800-2230

Nice app, love the notifications for Stage changes. The load shedding times are however incorrect for my town, Oudtshoorn. It's states a time from 16:00 to 18:30 when it should be from 14:00 to 16:30.

It never States the schedule for my town, Kirkwood, but those Stage warnings are so useful.

Hey Guys,

Spent the last 3 days and made an Eskom load shedding app. You can select your area (I have aggregated some of them for now) and receive notifications for load shedding in areas. Made it for me so it should be useful for you :)

Check it out and let me know what you think.

One suggestion : Add a feature where you can say "Outage expected, but none occurred" when you are on the list for loadshedding, but your power stays on.

We didn't had any loadshedding at all in our area...

Otherwise it looks good so far :)

Hmm. Combine mine and yours - "Normal Power" or something like that. (We won't see Normal for a long time)
The trick with mobile apps is to make it as simple and intuitive as possible.

I'm keen to try this app. What is the name of the app as my search comes up empty?

While the app informs, it doesn't seem to be right for my suburb even though I selected my suburub...but I think that's eskom's faulty schedule.

Small bug report:

Got a notification that the app couldn't find an internet connection, but the app's name is indicated as FlirtHubb

Good idea.

KISS principle applies!

Is it supposed to tell me that Loadsheding for my town should be from 14:00 - 16:30 on Tuesday and Wednesday comes around, it should say 20:00 - 22:30?
I only get informed about Stage notices?

I just wish they could come up with proper schedules for the whole country. Schedules they implement and strictly stick to.

This app has no value at all without it. Not even with crowdsourcing.

I do not want to be at home, zoooooooooop - the power goes off and then comes the notification that power is off. The app basically just telling me what I already know. Then, the power comes back on and another notification thereof, just stating what I already know.

Stupid Eskom and stupid municipalities.
