Android FOTA now live on MTN

Cool. Got mine yesterday... From build 2.09 -> 2.10.

Aah I see 2.29 is out. Did a manual check and busy downloading.

i don't know if i trust them

last thing i want is a huge data bill at the end of the month

How does the "checking" work? Coworker and I tried putting my MTN sim in his vodacom phone and doing a manual check so he could get the updates but no luck... Is it tied to the IMEI or something and done via HTC maybe?

The update notification says to rather do it over wifi anyway. I doubt it being free... Not a problem for me though, wifi at work and home.

As it says in the article, it's not free. The "F" in "FOTA" is for "Firmware". Leaf wanted it zero-rated, but it seems that MTN actually wanted to do something about the problem rather than sit around spouting nonsense issues. Good for them, I say. Vodacom, your move.

The best I have got out of leaf is that the Desire updates were the priority and we should be getting them ( Legend updates) sometime this year. Not great considering by then you will have Gingerbread already available. Its like saying to windows 2000 users, well we know that even though windows 7 is out we are just not ready to allow you to update to windows XP just yet. Friken ridiculous

Please let us know if you notice anything interesting in version 2.29. It doesn't seem as if there are any details about what the patch actually does.

According to MTN, users should be able to update their HTC Desires regardless of whether they purchased them from MTN franchises or not. Apparently the only requirement is that the device be connected to the MTN network.

So I should be able to upgrade my Vodacom Desire by putting an MTN sim card into it, right?

But then..

I suspect you may have to wait a while for it to figure out that there is an update waiting.

I hope that this firmware is compatible with the Vodacom network...

Sorry, I haven't noticed anything different.

Got the update. My network reception seems really bad now. 3G/Data working like crap, if it works. Did a wi-fi hotspot and did a video call to the uk, smooth as silk before the update. Granted, I am using a custom rom. Will update that rom accordingly tonight.

This is what MTN said last year, yes.

Perhaps. I've read on XDA that dialing this might do the trick as well:

*#*#2432546#*#* (*#*#checkin#*#*)

If that doesn't work, please let me know so I can follow up with MTN, because I was fairly certain that they were wrong about the fact that any phone could get updates on their network.

I hope that this firmware is compatible with the Vodacom network...

It should be. It looks like we're getting the European updates anyway.
