Android FOTA now live on MTN

Just go to XDA and download custom roms or even the stock roms, by the time Leaf in SA has woken up with their updates they are outdated. Updated my HTC HD2 to Android GingerBread already! What a pleasure.

Worked really well for me.

Downloaded it over Wi-Fi and installed it in less than 10min.

Well done MTN!

Not sure why people don't just RUODIY

(Read Up On Doing It Yourself :D )

I installed FroYo manually the day I took the phone out of the box.

At this rate mtn and leaf will be providing us with OTA of Gingerbread in 2012.

DIY.

Hahah funny dude...if you did it over wifi then mtn had nothing to do with it...unless you were sarcastic...hopefully the latter ;)

Good on ya MTN/HTC

Done update this morning, just irritating that I had to look for space on the phones miniscule internal storage.

Ya know, we keep complaining about operators being late etc, but at least MTN has come to the party, good on ya! I got the phone in August, so I just had to wait 4 months until today, considering that Im with the phone for at least another 18 months, this arrangement is fine for me!

(Downloading the 29MB file as we speak, I hope that there are no issues with this :-) teehee)

Actually MTN is the only operator in SA currently offering FOTA in any shape. If you have an HTC Desire with a firmware version older than 1.21 on any other network in South Africa you won't get the updates.

So even though MTN's network may not have been used to download the actual updates, it's currently only via MTN that FOTA is possible.

All talk. Still waiting for the update to come through to my phone. Have been running an brand MTN chip for past 3 days, done RICA, recharged, made a billable call and sms.

Why can't they do anything right? Vodacom and MTN just as useless as each other, at the moment they are performing just as well as Cell C for FOTA>

I suspected MTN had it wrong when they said anyone should be able to get the updates. I'm following up on this and will report back as soon as I hear something, but Leaf has just got a new PR and Comms head and he told me today that he needs two days or so to get back to me to give him a chance to set up his department and get the answers.

In the interim, have you tried the *#*#checkin#*#* (i.e. dial *#*#2432546#*#* on your HTC Desire) trick?
