Although subjective, I do prefer the look my Huawei to Apple watch in the classic look.

But that aside, after 2+ years my watch is old and I'm still getting 10 day battery time. That's something I've got used to - popping away for a week and I don't need to pack a charger. So, although Apple is 'enough' battery for most people at 18 hours - I may battle a bit.

Also, on the Face ID, why is there that extra step of swiping once the phone has recognized you ? I prefer it going straight into the phone :/ This is - to me - a minor annoyance and wouldn't stop me going iOS. It's just something I'd need to get used to .

Procedure is pick up phone, phone wakes, swipe screen, unlocked.

Do you mean that swipe?

On the other side, I have to admit I battle a little bit to understand what my Samsung A50 wants me to do every time I pick it up. I only open it once or twice a day at the moment but can’t seem to remember the sequence because I automatically try to open it like my iPhone :p

It secures your Lock Screen so that only you can read the content.

So if someone else picks up your phone they just see blank messages.

When you pick it up you can see all the content and take actions against things without actually opening up your phone fully.

So the swipe up step is there if you want to do something more behind the Lock Screen.

It’s what makes FaceID so great is how it works transparently when you don’t even realise it’s working. Unlock with touch based authentication you don’t have these “freeze” moments of needing to put your finger down, most of the time you don’t even realise you’ve authenticated for things.

It’s doing the exact opposite.

It’s taking unnecessary steps away.

I just woke up and didn’t swipe up to unlock my phone at all.

I just disabled Sleep Focus from the Lock Screen, then I tapped the reminder to mark as complete that I took my medicine.

Then I came straight to this notification from Tapatalk about this conversation, without ever swiping up to go to my Home Screen.

If I did that it wild have taken many more steps to achieve all the above. Or at the very least I would have needed to swipe down from the top again to access notifications and do it from there which is more steps.

Operating from your Home Screen by default isn’t really very efficient.

I'm in no way dissing it - I personally just find it an extra step to what I've been doing for years and a bit of change.

If my girlfriend look at my phone, she can't see my notification content either way (or she can - my choice)
And if I want it to go direct into the phone, it will (or won't - my choice)

Hate to break it to you…but it’s a different system of course it will be different.

If it wasn’t this conversation wouldn’t exist.

Just talking apps in general, I run Android and iOS simultaneously and have quite a few of the same apps on both and the new features invariably seem to pop up in the iOS app before the android app.

Guess it’s because if you’re developing for iOS, you only need to figure out how your app is going to run on 4 new phones every year.

Android developers on the other hand…

Not fully true. Said App would need to be compatible for all supported (current iOS) devices & we know that would mean a (more) wider variety of screen sizes & resolutions.

I think one of the main reasons for the more progressive nature of App development on iOS vs Android is purely revenue potential. iOS users (generally) have a higher propensity to whip out their wallets.

It’s a self incentivising model which benefits everyone.

Dev pays Apple for the privilege of publishing(yearly) and also a sales commission.
Apple keeps devices updated, they also provide other dev related services.
Users get software updates.

Works the same, iOS is a bit more conservative doing things in the background so you must enable background app refresh for the app, even with this enabled I do find background photo uploads can be a bit behind at times.

So, I call bullshit that Google photos, OneDrive and other apps can sync in background even if enabled on iOS.

Just today, helping friend migrate from 6s to 13 Max Pro 1TB!!.

Device transfer via Apple from old phone to new phone all good. Apple is so awesome at this . Once done, we were checking that all apps were working.

Open Google photos on new phone - it thought for a long time before deciding it has 1900 photos to sync. So that means on old phone it never synced as he never opened google photos.

My wife's phone and my iPad have same issue for Google photos , OneDrive and Garmin. Apps where I want it to bloody sync by itself when connected to WiFi never happens

Apple sucks here. It can't be that on all our devices we have **** settings somewhere.

Another stupid thing we found out today. Friend has 200GB iCloud sub. 160GB used. One his new 1TB phone, it says iCloud backup impossible - not enough space. He had to upgrade to 2TB plan for 150 per month. Overpriced. How come they don't have a 1TB plan.

Writing now, I just perhaps realised iCloud needs to have space to back up old and new phone hence the error. Friend will only wipe old phone in one week - just in case!!
