Android Pie removes call recording ability

Perhaps Google is just conforming to privacy laws common to most countries? Isn't it illegal to record a conversation without the other party's knowledge or consent?
Nope perfectly legal. As long as one participant in the conversation is aware

Not in South Africa, In SA you can legally record any conversation you are a participant of without the other parties consent. I am currently using this in a case against my employers where I was unfairly dismissed and discriminated against.

Also on the topic of Android Pie disabling call recording, if you have a Samsung then go onto sammobile and download the Indian (INS) or Thailand (THL) firmware and flash your phone with odin you can then use the built in voice recorder that samsung has enabled in those regions.

Good luck with this as a couple of cases last year got thrown out, where recordings were made.

Thats because in SA law recordings can be used to strengthen your case and its not seen as evidence. That's also why you only need one of the participants consent to record. In countries where all parties have to concede it can be used in place of evidence.

I still desperately need a call-recording service with caller id. We got good recording services like ACR that records both sides and saves it nicely to your Dropbox, but it does not ID the caller any more, all are "Unknown".

I'm having a problem with ACR. It's only recording my side of the conversation. Any idea how to sort this out?

How will you know my number if I intentionally hide it from you?

To the best of my knowledge, there is no facility to hide it from me. You can hide it yes. Full stop. To all in other words. Yes, and it has always been like that - Call Recorders show Unknown for those.

If this is the case I am dead happy with previous versions of Android and would have no more interest in future versions. Now I am even more glad I just bought that Motorola Nexus 6, which is no longer supported for future updates to the OS. Call recording is critical for me.

@LewSkannen. Why'd you change names?

Any updates on call recording? It's now essential for my business and nothing works on my Xiaomi/Redmi devices.

They replaced the MIUI dialler with the Google dialler so call recording doesn't work any longer. Do I have to buy another phone?
