Post fact yes, I use it to lookup gifts. (My account is signed in on all PCs, so my history is everywhere)

The malware is disguised as a porn app called Porn ‘O’ Mania. The malicious app is not found on Google Play and may be downloaded from third-party app stores, forums, or torrent sites.

It didn't pass Google's vetting process because it was not submitted to the Play Store. Google cannot vet every app out there on every site in existence.

Yep, its a security risk, but at least Android allows you to do what you want in the end.
