Android TV box and DSTV drifta for android

Hi, I am planning to buy android based tv stick/ box. I found Prestigio Multicenter box a good option. It is coming for around 1000 rands for mini stick and 1300 rands for the box. There are couple of no-name brands as well in the market with the same price range.

1. Can anyone suggest some experience with these android TV devices?
2. What is the difference between a normal android phone and these devices? App purchase/ use etc
3. I am planning to use DSTV drifta (android) with the android TV. Will it work?

Most of these android boxes require a good knowledge of android to get them working properly. If you read some of the reviews on Amazon you will find that many customers regret buying them as they never manage to get them to work reliably (frequent crashes, stuttering playback etc.). You really need to read as many reviews as you can about the specific device that you are considering as most of these devices do not perform as well as they should. Have you looked at the Droid TV MX from AVSupply? Several forumites have bought this device and appear to be satisfied. This is very similar to the G-Box Midnight MX2 which was until recently the top selling android box on Amazon. The Prestigio box appears to be using the same dual core Amlogic processor as the Droid TV/MX2 but the firmware is probably different.

I would also carefully look at the new android based Amazon Fire TV. The Ouya version of XBMC is already running on the box. Amazon have hired a number of developers who worked on the Logitech Revue and also android games so this platform has a lot of potential. After just one week of sales of the Fire TV there are more reviews than a year of MX2 sales.

Regarding the compatibilty of the Drifta, you should try to contact AVSupply. I'm not sure about the Fire TV though. If the Drifta works with some of the Amazon Fire tablets it may also function with the Fire TV. There will no doubt be a large amount of development for this platform in the future.

DSTV mobile resolution is only 320x240 pixels, it would look horrible.

Drifta s/w on Android Play says "Not available for your device" for everything except their approved list, afaik.

According to the Play store, the Drifta app is compatible with the DroidTV and CS918
