Android Useful Apps

Anyone else find that the rain amounts predicted on this app are totally wrong (under the daily section)? For instance today it shows ±0.5mm rain for every hour which seems correct given what the weather is actually doing, so you'd expect there to be ±12mm predicted for the whole day. Nope, it shows 1.3mm. I've checked 4 locations from around the world and they all have this discrepancy

What's the best app to mirror a non-rooted android phone to PC? I'm having no success with the ones I've tried. The closest I've got is with Vysor with finds the phone but fails to connect.

I rather like "All in one gestures" for gestures from screen edges, etc.

I can't recommend Adguard for Android enough. Been using it since the Cybersecurity Humble Bundle came out recently (which includes a year of Adguard Premium) and it's amazing.

Functions like a VPN - blocks ads in Chrome and Youtube. Just make sure you download the app from their website and not the Play Store. The latter version is heavily nerfed due to Google's terms of service.

How's it on battery usage?

Mention or quote me so I know you're talking to me lol.

Battery life is hardly affected. Android reports usage incorrectly (although even then, doesn't seem to be much) so the app itself tries to estimate its impact on battery life. I checked now and it reckons 0.23%.

I'm giving Private Internet Access's Android VPN a go atm to see how it compares. It has a MACE feature that blocks ads (but not Youtube ads unfortunately - I guess because that would be the end of its presence on the Play Store). A year of PIA is also included in the Cybersecurity Humble Bundle.

One inconvenience with Adguard that I've uncovered is that Play Store apps can't update while it is active, whereas PIA has no such issue.

Is it the app and vpn service free?

No quality VPN is free, but I think Adguard provides desktop browser ad blocking for free.

You can get a year of both services for $15 with the current Cybersecurity Humble Bundle.

I like the stats Adguard provides.

Have you used DNS66? How does it compare to it?

Tried DNS66 now (the real one, not the Play Store fake). Doesn't hold a candle to Adguard or PIA's MACE filter. It's so useless that most ads in Chrome slip through.
