I were always under the impression that Internet access cannot be totally anonymous because you need to be registered with an ISP and even with cell phone SP you are also registered.

But what if you bought a secondhand cell phone and you buy a sim card with prepaid air-time that you then convert to air-time. And say you have a laptop and you go and sit in a public place (or out in the bushes) and hack like crazy ... how will they catch you?

Just thinking.

We'll in SA they won't catch you, but in the US they would have found your ass in no time.

We don't have an FBI/etc/etc/etc/etc/etc/etc as such...

I thought there was going to come in a new law. Regarding the sell of sim card, by providing your ID when buying one.

Just go to an internet cafe some distance from where you live. Pay in cash, wear a cap,
etc. Or a public library or a univercity internet terminal. Just watch for cameras.

Otherwise hackers hack via botnets. I'm sure they pass the commands down a chain of
machines or order a whole group of malware ridden hijacked PCs to perform DDOS attacks.

Just search for anonymous proxies... pay ones work best...then its anonymous... your own isp wont know what you up to.

Yeah that's the easiest, or TOR.

If you're gonna commit something illegal, the victim will trace the proxy's
address, which when subpoened by the court will give out your IP address.

That's only cool if you want to hide your habits from your ISP.

I don't think telkom really cares what you doing, even if you're downloading masses of illegal movies, they still get paid - it's their business.

What can you use it for illegally? Piracy is illegal and everyone does it.

Will you really be caught in SA without all the effort?

Something really illegal like hosting an al quada webforum or
child pron site or hacking into something important like
a gov agency or a fortune 500 co.

Not me btw. I just said what I consider to be really illegal.
Downloading some antivirus program from the web or some
Kylie Minogue mp3's is not THAAAT illegal.

Depends on the jurisdiction the proxy's in and how illegal what you're doing is I suppose. TOR is close to untraceable I think.

So R5milion from a billionare also isn't that illegal? Cause hes got lots. :)

Doing the other things is illegal in terms of criminal law. Taking Mp3's is
a civil infrigment. Its a different issue, ask a lawyer :).

If you host child pron, hack into another system or support terrorism,
you will be arrested and tried in a criminal court. If you download
Kylie Minogue (gross!) then you get sued by the RIAA/Kylies
record co in a CIVIL suit.

My argument wasn't about the moral implications of Mp3 downloading.
That is another kettle of fish.

Ok...I wouldnt know :p

Still of the music I dl'ed as student in mp3 form, everything I liked
I bought on CD WHEN I could afford it. I don't believe the BS
RIAA/MPAA/their local shills put out about lost revenue.

Many of the ppl who download unlicenced content, would
not have licenced it in the first place. However when
given the money (later in life) many of them do buy these
CDs or become fans and buy later CDs (which they would not
have done in the first place.)

I have quite a few GBs of music...over 100GB now...all albums - I used to own a lot of albums...well over a 1000 as a kid...I have about 40 left...all stolen.
