No, patches for the future will be distributed via wow's streaming platform until they say otherwise.

we can still (hopefully) download them and put the update file on a local server. I will see tonight if it still works if you you just copy the update file to another machine

You can't. Period.
The way the system works now is, it patches the content while it downloads, how else do you think it enables you to play before all the content is down.
I prefer this system, works alot better in my eyes. The previous patching system was just lond and tedious.

The previous one (5gig+) we just copied across and let it patch away without downloading all over again for each pc

Its because it stored it temp folder as it was staged. I didnt see any temp files in my folders this morning.

I will have to check and get back to you, it looked like it was downloading to my updates folder this morning before I canceled it.

Worst part about patches is getting addons sorted out. I miss WoWmatrix, Curse is the succubus!
but you only have to worry about new patches when the second digit gets an up, e.g 4.1.0, we're now on 4.0.3 soo, no worries man! you can still use your ui!

There was a blue post on one of the forums that stated that downloadable patches will be available again in the future. No idea when though.

oraait, I copied my wife's data folder across and it went straight into applying patched and skipped the download allowing me to play immediately.
EDIT: seems to have worked well, still applying patches though but movements is smoother, resolution is better and I can play. Bit of a mission copying 15 gb of newly modified data folder though

If it's anything like WotLK it'll have all the files needed to install from scratch on the Cata DVD/s.
Just a(nother) quick question about the release date. So far as I know Catacalysm goes live on US realms on the 7th, at 00:01 PST, which is 0800 for us. Can anyone confirm if if the EU release is at the same time, or if we're getting it on the 8th rather, at 00:01 Paris time?

We're getting it on the 7th @ midnight, EU realms wil come on at 01:01 (Daylight Savings) so, it'll give you a full 60 mins to install the game (if ofcourse you didn't just let it prepatch)

There are two methods. One involved adding an extra line to one of the ini files, but WoW overwrote my change for some reason. The other was adding a parameter to the WoW executable. I found it on the Prophecy forums in the 4.0.1 patch notes.
I didn't notice any immediate differences, but I didn't look too closely. One thing I did notice is when I alt-tabbed out of the game the last drawn image from the game will remain. I had to switch to another running program (FireFox) to replace it, so I disabled Dx11 again.
