Another fun filled station wagon thread

The Mazda is sold as a station wagon. Hence the A3 is.

I call this the Mazda theorem. Any hatch that looks like the Etude sports wagon is therefore a sports wagon, therefore a station wagon, ergo with slight performance characteristics.

It's like the Pythagoras theorem but for cars, so it is more applicable.

^ but but my buddy...it's sold as a *hatch* in other parts of the world.

SA was the only market to call it the *Etude*; elsewhere it was the 8th Gen Familia or 323.

So your *theory* falls flat...not?

The Mazda theory of station wagons (sporty they may be) is very similar to the Black-A-traffic theory which states that when you encounter two black Audis in traffic with one being an A4 station wagon and the other an A3 Sportzack then the A3 will look more station wagon like than the A4 station wagon. as illustrated here : http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/170313-A3-5-door-VS-A4-Avant

So based on both the Mazda and Black-A-traffic theorems we can conclude the A3 Sporthack is a station wagon and the Corsa C is not.

I prefer not to get into this any more. Let's leave it to each their own.

I will give you some kudos for your stubborn determination to prove your "theory".

Just a heads up that if Audi *actually* builds a "station wagon" A3 in the near future that you:

1) Admit you were wrong all along
2) Eat your hat & provide evidence the deed was done.

That is a very interesting plot I must admit. However, if we pause for a moment to consider what such a car would look like - what image is first to enter your mind?

An A3 Avant? Is it not a naming change like with the Mazda? Think about it... it is deep question.

4292mm Audi A3 Sportback (AKA 5-door hatch)
4250mm Mazda 323 5-door hatch

4703mm Audi A4 Avant station wagon
4770mm Mazda 6 station wagon

MY stationwagon....
See, that's all it takes. And you do have a beautiful station wagon. All that the A3 Sportjack needs to do is admit it. Just take a step back and say "MY stationwagon". It feels good don't it? Plus there we have all the millimetres too prove it thanks to PP.

The figures prove it's not a station wagon, and that it is correctly in line with the 323 5-door hatch length, which is not a station wagon either.

This is pretty good actually, well played!

No, I'm calling you one.
If the A3 Sportwack looks more stationwagon-ish than the A4 avant and Etude sportswagon then, based on the obvious, it should be called a station wagon.

You can call a rock a sport stone, but the bottom line is that it looks like a rock so therefore we can call it a rock.
