Another I hate Telkom rant

Every month, once a month I phone Telkom to ask about the progress on my ADSL application, since February 2007. Every month I am told that my exchange does not support ADSL and neither am I in the Wimax footprint. Every month I vent and rage in frustration at this. No one anywhere can tell me when I will ever have broadband.

Instead I have to keep paying R20 an hour for ISDN dialup.
Telkom refuses to give me some kind of better priced rate for ISDN, refuses to let me combine call plans to get better priced dialup access. I hate their business practices.

My business cannot take this much longer and my frustration levels cannot handle it much longer either. I hate this company with a passion that transcends words and actions. I hate Telkom every day and every time I pay my phone bill. I hate Telkom with every fibre in my being.

What is worse, Neotel will take 10 or more years to provide me with a service in the rural area I live in.

My apologies for venting here.

No worries... we have all vented here at some time. Also usually at Telkom.

Just some questions? How far are you from a Cellular Tower? Would it not be faster to use your cellphone for dial-up?

This is for your business? So after hours calling plans are not going to help you much?

Just how rural are we talking? are you on a farm? or in a dorp?

have you looked at:

3G
Iburst
Sentech
Sattelite

If its so important to your business, then stop complaining and find another solution.

telkom spacestream = ~R1400 p/m - but it includes 24month-36month contract depending on X. 512down/128up ...3gb cap

0-2 bars cell coverage, average 3k ms ping using GPRS (sometimes EDGE), an arial will only boost that to about 1k ms ping. I need a better connection and more relaiable for database uploads and gaming, etc.
Confirmation from Vodacom, there is no 3G in rural areas due to the signal not working well and there will also never be.
I live 74km from PMB, Iburst has a 9km radius from PMB
Sentech has no coverage here
Sattelite (Telkom Space stream) costs R1400 pm, my phone bill is R1200 or so, this amount is also does not include the UPSTREAM costs on your phone bill. Sattelite is only downstream, it cannot transmit.

And yes I know, the best solution would be to move, but there is my family to think of.

Bottom line, Telkom is making it very hard for me, the bastards.

negative general....its BI-DIRECTIONAL using the gilat 360E skystar platform. It can transmit - i'm using this at a transport company - 30km' from town. They in EXACTLY the same position...no 3g,no adsl,no iburst/sentech - nothing...latency is about 900ms with about 2% packet loss

how about you invest in building your own 2.4ghz point2point links...just organize with the correct people.

That's not a bad idea... as long as you have line of sight and an internet link in the nearest city with high speed access, then share (and ration) it down the line.
