Another 'I need your help choosing an ISP' thread

OK so after some discussion with the people who pay for the internet :D they decided they wanted 'faster internet' so now looking at 4Mbps Uncapped. Im taking that Axxess, CW and Afrihost are still the 'main' companies to choose from?

Take it from me don't go Axxess normal 4mb uncapped. I made the mistake of going from 2mb business uncapped back to normal 4mb uncapped as I was told ALL their IPC issues have been resolved. I learned the hard way now and am unable to stream any Netfilx or Hulu+. I'm now trying to get them to take me back to the 2mb business uncapped and it's a nightmare. VERY irritated by Axxess currently.

@Ex_Landy_Oke thanks for the help, we dont stream hulu/netflix here (too confusing for the 'higher powers' :D )

Thought I'd update, have decided to give CW a spin from August will see how that goes.

But also saw a Telkom bundle that has 50GB cap, and 10Meg line for about R590 soo will be looking at that option as well :) thanks to those that helped really appreciate it :D

Never go with telkom capped ^^
infact if your going to go for anything your best bet is either
100gb/10mbps bundle @ R578 from afrihost
or 120GB/10mbps bundle @ R599 from webafrica
webafrica/afrihost capped data is also much higher quality than telkom data.
edit: not to mention i think almost all telkom bundles are 12month contract except telkom simple.

Why is Telkom not that great?, reason I wanted to go there was due to the 'free night data' and gaming add-on, plus apparently WebAfrica shapes their capped accounts and Afrihost have been having a authentication problems the past few months.
Also are you sure about the contract issue?
Thanks for the info, appreciate it :)

Telkom capped is shaped they don't even try to hide it...it's in the product description.
my afrihost capped accounts runs fine i get line speed only problem i have is i dislike mtn backbone.....people having problems are people from western cape

Webafrica is shapes p2p during the working hours(and also have a slightly more expensive package with unshaped(see business)

also might as well add that telkoms free night time and game addons are promotions and they can stop them when they want, also trust me cancelling telkom internet takes 10-20x longer to than to sign up(literally new product sign up phone queue is 5min and when i cancelled uncapped it took 2hours to get through to call center

well i think all their bundles are contracts.....at least they were last i checked, thats why simple was such a great deal...because it wasn't a contract

Ahh ok I did not know that Telkom shapes their capped packages..

I would go Afrihost but still a bit hesitant after the auth issues maybe look at it again when it seems to have settled. Thought it was a national issue and not provincial.

Hmm might take a look at that then due to the fact browsing and streaming YouTube are done during the day and p2p generally left for some evenings. (Could schedule them for midnight onwards)

Ahh you see that was not made clear to me, that these could be stopped at any time. I don't remember it taking that long, but the again it was a few years ago :D

Thanks Slasher you've been really helpful

Never had bad experience using Telkom capped products - always great latency etc. Yes they are shaped, but that is not a bad thing. So are Web Africa, again not a bad thing (I am a WA home capped customer). Basically to keep the network stable when the usage gets high it is necessary to shape.
Afrihost is unshaped yes, but I have yet to see it more stable than my Web Africa home capped. ...just saying... (Not to say that Afrihost have bad accounts, they have great capped accounts in my experience.)

Also to say, shaping doesn't mean that everything will be 20% line speed, I find my Web Africa home capped account downloads torrents at about 60 - 80 % of line speed during business hours.

My biggest problem with telkom is their call centre....i actually think their products are pretty decent(bar their new Ununcapped products :P)
But ive had a afrihost capped account for several months now and honestly ive had almost only 1 problem with them over that time(had auth problem just once :P fixed it pretty quickly when i spoke to them via support)

@325i honestly if that your usage your better off with uncapped as most of them won't even shape you with streaming @ day , downloads @ night
