Another "New PC Build" Help

As far as I can remember we have almost exactly the same server setup and I'm not looking to change it anytime soon.

Even 1080P HEVC files play just fine with the G3258.

But I think it's going to be either or really with the i5 more than likely being underutilised in both situations, also it's the same chipset and everything so swapping them out will take 5 minutes without reinstalling any software/drivers if at some point you think the server needs the i5.

Also if you feel the G3258 starts to struggle you can easily overclock it by another 1GHz.

Yeah thinking more about it I'm just going to keep it the same way it currently is. I'm sure later down the road my daughter will utilize the i5 more than the Plex Server.

Also like I said the G3258 is an overclocking beast, 20 seconds in the BIOS and you can have it running at 4.2GHz with the stock cooler no problem.

Haven't even attempted any over-clocking on the CPU yet. So far it is working without any issues so haven't needed to attempt that yet - might just have a look into it tho if it will give better performance (will have to search a youtube video or two maybe).

Boot into the BIOS, choose OC on the left and change CPU Ratio to 42 or maybe just do 40, save and restart.

Done.

Will give that a try once my server is back up and running - doing renovations at the house so have had to pack away the server and all other PC's from the office until they are done which should be end of this week hopefully.

Still waiting to see how good that MB looks and how huge the RAM heatsinks are.

Oh yes. It is currently packed away in a box but hopefully this weekend I can put it all together to see if all works then will take some pics. Gonna set it up on the mobo box as still waiting for case to arrive and just want to test all components work.

So CPU has also arrived, if I am correct it is just the case I am waiting for that should hopefully arrive by next week sometime.

So have a little side question: currently I have these speakers - Samson MediaOne BT4

I plan to mount them on my wall (somehow) on each side of my desk. My question comes about controlling the volume because as you can see, the volume control is on the actual speaker and really don't want to get up and down each time I want to change the volume. For connecting headphones (headphone jack is on the front of speaker) I was going to get an AUX extension cable and route it neatly so I can then connect my headphones to that.

My main concern is how to control volume. I could put the volume loud on speaker and then control windows volume with my keyboard but not sure how well that will work.

I was then looking at the ASTRO Mix Amp Pro but think it might be overkill or not even work for my situation. Is there something similar maybe that would work?

Anything anyone can suggest?

Keep the speakers on MAX and lower your volume in windows.

OK great thought this might work.

So no need to get any sort of DAC etc?

Also, with headphones, do I plug the extender cable into front of speakers or into mobo (not sure if I can plug speakers and headphones into mobo). Want a clean look but if not possible then suppose in front of speakers is only way.

I have the ASUS Strix Z270F mobo but doubt I can have speakers and headphones connected to back at once?

If you plug headphones into the speakers the speakers will be muted. Plug everything into the MB.

You can't really mount the speakers to the wall (well you can) as it will obstruct the bass ports which will change the sound. Speakers with rear bass ports should be positioned away from walls.

Yeah they will be musted until I un-plug the headphones? Or do they stay muted if the aux extender cable is still connected but not the headphones them selves?

Will look and hopefully I can connect both speakers and headphones aux cable into mobo.

So should I keep the speakers on my desk? Only problem is desk space is very limited with 2 monitors and both speakers plus my case.

Another idea was to get another desk but they are very hard to come by. Looking for at least a 1,5/1,6m and longer desk. That is why I was wanting to somehow mount speakers onto wall but if it will interfere with sound quality might decide against it.

Headphones connected - speakers muted
Aux connected - Source from PC cut.
Aux & headphones connected - speakers muted & source from pc cut.

Well that's how it should work anyway.

On the rear of your MB connect your speakers to the green line out port. On the MB there will be header pins to connect to audio connectors on the front of you case via a cable, plug your headphones into the front of the case case. The MB comes with software to select which output you want to use and which applications to associate with those outputs.

Yeah I thought that might be the only way. Trying to go for a clean look so might still try run the aux extender cable neatly and only plug in when I want to use them.

Now I need to try find a desk with enough space or failing that find a way to mount the speakers. Was thinking getting normal shelves on each side on the wall and placing them there but the sound needs to still be great.

Another "New PC Build" Help

So my case should arrive next week which is the last piece I need.

With regards to my ssd that currently has windows 10 installed in my old pc. I will be using the same drive and want to know, can I just plug the ssd into new pc and load new drivers?

Really don't want to have to reinstall windows and all my software as everything is setup up perfectly (have 2x 2tb drives aswell with a lot of programs installed and shortcuts etc). Will this work?

Is there software like DDU that can uninstall all older drivers before I connect ssd to new pc and what about my windows 10 license?

Any help will be great.

Windows is going to have a heart attack if you do that.

Don't you want your brand new system running at its best?

Depends on the version of windows you have. If it's one of those oem keys then you kinda farked.

I normally do clean installs on all systems I get - even with iOS, when they upgrade software to a new "number" I do a complete back up then wipe the phone for fresh install.

Only issue now is I have all my programmes installed and setup perfectly with all the "other" software installed on my 2x 2tb hdd's with shortcuts linked to them and everything works smoothly. It took a lot of work to get everything working smoothly so was hoping it was like Mac OS where you could either make a "duplicate" copy and restore it just connect and let it do its thing.

If not then will have to take time to re-map everything the same way.

Is it really gonna cause problems if I just uninstall drivers and connect ssd and install new drivers?

I am trying to think if it was an upgrade from 7 / 8.1 and then a fresh install or just a fresh install.

I read somewhere that the key is saved in mobo bios and you then need to "un-activate" windows license then install drive and windows will see the key and activate on boot.

A little worried it doesn't work then I need to either pay for license or "find other ways" to activate again.
