The new SONY 939 TVs were announced in the US this week. They use both a CFL backlight and LEDs for the LCD screen. The 62" model is $5000. The 55" model (only) $3000. Got best ever reviews in Absolute Audiophile

Any links please? thanks, will read up on that for sure!

I learnt to read properly quite some time ago believe it or not, and I have always firmly believed that HD sources look good on just about any modern HDTV.

You'll just have to accept that everything I've expressed in this thread which suits technical discerning viewers was confirmed by a post that yourself and Mr Bee applauded, there's no undoing now.

Maybe Alice in wonderland is also true to "technically discerning viewers".

Just typical from you to read and comprehend that post differently than anyone else, He said he finds your and the other altercations fairly amusing as he owns/owned both technologies and both are acceptable, he now only decides on size and price. Obviously you only comprehend what your biased mind wants to.

He said no such thing, I also own plasma and LCD (4 x LCDs including S-PVA, IPS and TN). He confirmed the points as to why his plasma trounces his LCD (same with my experience under the correct conditions). He said most people wouldn't know the difference, and this is due to them not being technically inclined. Most of us here are, I hate to break it to you. They have a right to know.

We and all the others share common sense yes. I not so sure about you.

True you do sometimes share common sense, like when you both applauded iceman23's post. I suppose in retrospect it would have been better for the both of you to not share common sense. No going back.

You did say ealier that a cave is the ideal condition for Plasma. Are you insulting him?

Peculiar post, do you and wily share something?

We, and a few others, share this naggingly irritating poster on this forum who believes he is the know all and be all GOD of all the knowledge on TV's, attacking and belittling everyone else's experiences that contradicts his own limited experience and knowledge. 3D Tv's technology in general was/is a great example of that typical ignorance he exhibit and recently projectors was added to the list.

A cave, or room with minimal ambient light rather, is the best place for all TV viewing. This is why cinemas are darkened, even in the day.

We actually share it all the time - I wish you could do so sometimes.

There's no going back now, I know in hind-sight you would have rather not applauded iceman23's post because it negates everything you've dramatised and moaned about as this thread's pre-madonna.

Actually I'm the only one to show interest in people's individual personal situations, and advise on that basis. I'm not here to punt either of my plasma or LCDs, or the TVs my friends own, like some others do.

There you've done it again - Plasma especially you said because it reflects so much - are you a caveman?

Cinemas are darkened because the screen has no backlighting at all.

He said no such thing, ........ Garbage in >>>>>>>>>>Garbage out!.

Sigh

This plasma vs LCD, now plasma vs LED debates are quite entertaining. I have two relatively high end tvs (at the time they were high end). one plasma and one lcd. The plasma is streaks ahead of the lcd but the plasma also has its issues. I used to be a LCD fan, then swopped to a Plasma fan and now I dont care at all to be honest.

Much like projectors suffer from ambient light.

The same applies to all TV viewing, darkened rooms are the best to show contrast and picture quality. It also just happens that most people view their TVs at night, or their rooms are designed exactly as HT rooms (less sunlight etc).

Thank you, and thank you.

How old are your TVs? Sometimes the "out of date" argument is also used. Please trounce those too. :D

My tvs are both two years old. Got a Samsung 6 series 50 inch 1080p plasma and a 46 inch 200Hz motionflow Sony LCD.

When I see the new tv's in shops they all look pretty darn good. The LCDs and LED's look a lot better than when I was buying in all honesty. I hardly see ghosting and the black levels are awesome. By the same token, Plasmas havent stood still and just as good in PQ obviously with slight differences. (reflectivity in some models is a huge issue though and is one thing that I believe should be taken into account). The thing is though, none of the tvs actually look leaps and bounds ahead of my tvs at home. They are probably better but nothing noticeable that makes me giddy about buying them. Whats most attractive is the shiny cases and slimness. The reason I am buying a new tv now is I want something bigger, not because of new tech. Both my tvs are perfectly watchable, and I wouldn't spend the extra for a 10% improvement.

EDIT: Was replying to postmans post about the age of tv's. sorry didn't mean to spark off more debate. Cant we all just get along :)
