I am beginning to think my lack of wanting to do anything or go anywhere is more about having panic attacks then avoiding the situation.

What would you guys recommend?

Alprazolam. Comes in various doses and sustained release.

Killa some time back I suffered from these, due to something that happened to me. I was put onto Beta Blockers, "purblocker".
Small purple pills they saved my life, literally.

No the herb is not good for me, makes me miff and i feel even more depressed. The only way is cookies or nothing.

I also cannot stand the smell and i get greenies so i either chomp it or leave it. I take dormicans and there is this feeling that sets in just before i go to bed. It is calmed relax happy and confident.

Thanx marine i will phone my docs and ask about the 2 suggestions from you and noxi.

Keep them coming gents, i have gogled but i want personal experiences not some company telling me how amazing they are.

Eveyone talks about ResQ.For me personally it does nothing.I prefer using other techniques to relax.

Doctors would advise one of two things, benzos or anti-depressants. Benzos are best to be avoided because you risk becoming addicted to them and they also don't solve the problem or stop a panic attack from coming (you take them when you feel it coming or when you experience a panic attack). The anti-deps, well, the only one I'm familiar with are SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) which you pretty much take long-term. There are side-effects at first as your body adapts to them.

None of this will help you, however, unless you do something to adapt yourself to the things that trigger your panic attacks since they're only solutions for so long as you take them. You have to actually do something to help yourself while you take them.

I suffer from an anxiety disorder. I decided against taking the drugs, however, and decided to face the triggers instead. For the most part it's better :)

As scotty777 said, speak to a doctor and hear about your options but avoid a doctor that just wants to shove pills down your throat, grab your money and get rid of you. Specifically, ask your doctor for a reference to a good psychologist who will be able to take you through the steps if you can't manage to do it yourself.

Good luck.

Killa stay away from Anti Deps.
They screw you up in my opinion and try coming off them.....not nice.
I know I am not a doc but its my personal opinion based on past experience.

SSRIs are different to tricyclic antidepressants and monoamine oxidase inhibitors. Not all anti-deps are the same and not all anti-deps are best (read: advisable) for anxiety disorders.

Been down the anti pressant road, got off them easily.

Basically my anxiety is i am sales rep and i am not doing as well as i could if i was relaxed and not panicking all day about my next client, then i am in such a state in the meeting i blabber and cannot get my words out lekka.

I want something that will make me walk into a meeting relaxed and calm and not feeling like my heart is going to explode :D

Cat does this but ya not a good idea for me to be sniffing everyday at work. Net most gp's are clueless about the drugs i am fairly certain people who use them will know better.

Touch wood, but I haven't been to a GP in 10 years-I don't even have one.A simple change of lifestyle and mind-set sorts you out nicely.Gp should come as a last resort.

Yeah talk to the dock about beta-blockers. Professional musicians use them a lot for stage fright. Also, beta-blockers are a lot less scary than the other stuff suggested (lithium, benzo etc) & not too expensive.

Just make sure you level with the doc about party habits etc. They are pretty safe in themselves but combined w/ other stuff could get interesting. Also double check what the doc says about blood pressure...both beta & alpha blockers have an effect on the heart which can be an issue if your blood pressure isn't right.

Start looking for a long term solution too. Perhaps some meditation?

Tried it but my main problem is when i get into the situation, my mind goes crazy and my i cannot think straight, i am so tense. Which means i cannot process what is going on due to my state of panic. A bit hard to meditate when trying to explain something to client/s

Thanx for the info got enough to go to the doc on monday and sort something out.

Thanks gents.

Go and see Dr. Fleming the neurologist at the Milpark hospital.
Ask him to put you on a course of Pur-Bloka (as Marine suggests). Three a day to start with.
He will also probably put you on a mild sedative/sleeping pill (Trepilene) for the nights.
(and maybe Nafasol/naproxen muscle relaxants for the morning. If you need it.)

The trepilene is great as it is a very mild sedative. The only side effect is that it dries your mouth out and gives you some weird dreams.
But it will help you to relax great in the daytime.
