Anti anxiety tablets

Check out Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (C.B.T.). It is very effective for things like anxiety disorder, phobias, o.c.d. and many other things.

Stay away from pills - get a dog, go walk on the beach, take some time to reflect on the reason for your anxiety. Work it out of your system.

Touch wood, but I haven't been to a GP in 10 years-I don't even have one.A simple change of lifestyle and mind-set sorts you out nicely.Gp should come as a last resort.

I don't want to be rude, but are you mad? GP last resort?? That is the worst advice I've heard since my dad gave me advice and that was 20 years ago.

If you need to see a doctor see one. I had Agoraphobia for a number of years and worked through it myself...it was scary. If I had seen my doctor I would have been cured earlier. IMHO

Just take a few minutes to think what you are saying. Doctors don't hand out pills like smarties. How many years experience do you have in the medical/psychiatric profession?

I am beginning to think my lack of wanting to do anything or go anywhere is more about having panic attacks then avoiding the situation.

What would you guys recommend?

Try working out.. Had similar as what u say. Gym helped

Personally I'm not so sure about that. I've met a lot of people (women in particular) who are on some kind of antidepressant and I just go wtf? When I discover the reason they are on the drugs I go wtf even more, coz usually their problems aren't that bad, and they are normal people (i.e. not bi-polar or self destructive or anything extreme). These people are getting their prescriptions from doctors, not from some dodgy guy on the corner of the street.

I'm of the opinion that unless it's a diagnosed disorder, people just need to bite the bullet and work through it.

coming down after kat might also be causing anxiety - unless you aren't partying too often?

If you don't go to the doctor, it won't be diagnosed. DOh!

Lets all pray to the all mighty... alligator.

I'm not saying don't go to a doctor. I'm saying that unless the doctor diagnoses you as having a MAJOR disorder, you shouldn't take medication for dealing with your emotions.

I.E. Lots of people get prescribed (or in some cases ask for) drugs so that they can avoid dealing with negative feelings.

Killa some time back I suffered from these, due to something that happened to me. I was put onto Beta Blockers, "purblocker".
Small purple pills they saved my life, literally.

Hey Killa.

A few years back I had bad panic / anxiety attacks, could start whilst I was in the movies or just before a presentation at work etc.

My boss is a Doctor and he told me about Purblocker and it really worked. Funny thing is I only ever took one of them, I keep one in my wallet but haven't used it since that first time (2 years ago), as long as I know it is there if I need it.

Rescue Remedy drops works for some people... but I suspect it has more to do with the 36% alcohol than the homeopathic flower essences. :)

I used Stresam (etifoxine hydrochloride). It's Schedule 5, so needs to be prescribed and apparently they'll only give it to you for 2 months (not sure why).

It worked very well for me while I was sorting out the cause of my anxiety.

beta blockers arent anti anxiety medication, though sometimes used as such.
the non specific ones like propranolol (inderal/purbloka/indoblok etc) work on the symptoms of the 'anxiety attack' by diminishing tremors eg. shaky hands, but they also can make you slightly drowsy since it crosses the blood brain barrier. newer generation betablockers like bisoprolol mainly work on the heart rate as intended, and dont work well at all for tremors/anxiety etc. ***very bad idea to take this unmonitored, if you have any trouble with your heart, and already take other meds for that, also if you have a very slow pulse rate this also isnt a good idea, as it will slow your heart down even further, and you could develop syncope attacks. (if no heart trouble, you technically could go to a *friendly* pharmacist and ask for 1 or 2 10mg inderal tabs and try one out - oh and the tabs are red/dark pink not purple)

i agree not to just jump on an antidepressant bandwagon, but if the symptoms are really bad it might be necessary (like with a generalised anxiety disorder).

regarding benzodiazepines - beware of the addiction potential! these include alprazolam (alzam/azor etc) and newer ones like urbanol (although it is a much 'cleaner' benzo)

go to a doctor and ask about stuff like pasrin and stresam. internet advice is rarely the correct advice for your situation.

I used to suffer from panic attacks; thought I was having a heart attack at first which only exacerbated the attacks :) It was pretty easy for the doc to diagnose and dish out some pills; some of the symptoms were shortage of breath, rapid increase in heart rate at random times, weird jitters in arms/legs/chest, pain in jaw/teeth (was grinding them over night), excessive sweating.

I think I was prescribed Zoloft and Purata which I was told to take a couple times a day. TBH, it didn't really help and I stopped taking after a while - it actually made me more depressed (which I wasn't) so I got rid of that crap. The symptoms kind of went away after a few weeks but still come back every now and then.

If someone wishes to take medication it's no business of yours.

sometimes i have some anxiety and depression and just feel i NEED something to keep my mood more balanced.I however never want to go on anti-depressants....i've seen what my brother is like without them and that seems like you on them for life almost once you start  But yeah these beta-blockers seems like a good idea.
