Antivirus

I think I will then keep going with ESET. Thank you all for the comments.

I am very afraid of malware and viruses so I use Kasperski and Malwarebytes and the free version of spybot.

I often get a popup from Kasperski saying "DOS attack prevented". I have no idea what this means but I take that it is protecting me from something.

Malwarebytes is a pain as it asks you to update and when you click on the update button nothing happens.

Those who say Windows Defender :erm:

AVG here for home devices. Best trade-off in my view for protection vs Cost (free)

I've used Avast and AVG free versions in the past but then switched over to Microsoft Essentials.
Have been using this for the past year or so but then changed last week to Trend Micro.

Ran a full scan and picked up 21 trojans and 19 spyware files

These days I mostly run MSE in disabled mode. If I'm going to install something dodgy I use a cloud scanner first, or if I'm lazy I'll right click and use MSE.

I use Windows Defender on Win8 and MSE on Win 7. It's by far the least intrusive and it doesn't bog down the OS. The detection rate is petty good for most uses. It doesn't pick up some adware related software, but if you are a sensible user this shouldn't be a problem. Running since it was released, zero infections or malware related issues.
