Anybody got a problem with Linux?

One question, is this when you are playing DVD's etc. 5.1 Sound sources or merely playing mp3's? Reason is that it took me 6 months of on and off trying to eventually solve this problem with ubuntu

That's exactly it. I can't hear the shooting behind me anymore :/ it doesn't bug me too much though as nowadays I'm hardly at home to try these things and sort it out :( It was just during the nice long 9 day holiday that I actually sat down and tried to do something that interests me.

hi guys

lookin 4 problems with linux os like whitebox not ubuntu
anyways wat is diff bet ubuntu n whitebox
it may b dumb question but sorry im new

Well I know nothing about whitebox...actually never heard of it. If it is based on debian then it is probably very similar to Ubuntu.

So your mp3's work through all the speakers then? But your 5,1 from movies doesnt?

In a nutshell, Whitebox is based of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 and Ubuntu is based on Debian linux.

Whitebox is intended to be used for servers etc and Ubuntu for both home and servers

Whitebox is based on red hat - but I've never heard of anybody actually using whitebox. :o

Edit: oh look linoman, we posted at exactly the same time. :D

As far as I remember sound works for all types. It's just not in Surround from DVD's with Dolby so there is no 3D sound if that makes sense? Stereo works fine from left to right though...I can hear even an mp3 go from left to right. I normally assumed I just missed a setting somewhere. Maybe it's just me? lol

EDIT: Sorry just to add....but no matter what I play..be it an MP3, Movie, Game etc there is no sound coming out of the center speaker.

btw if you want to strange btw if you want you can setup your mp3's to work from all the speakers

How about (i am sure others have mentioned these but anyway)

a) It is a pain installing gfx drivers in linux, don't always work. ATI is the worst.

b) There is no legal way to watch dvd's in linux.

c) People often have problems duplicating stereo signal to surround sound. Aka make music from an mp3 play on all 5.1 speakers and not just the front 2.

Gee you guys, i didn't say the problems couldn't be solved. But they are problems that could do with some refining
