My line stays synced but the PPP connection seems unstable. Two days ago I came home to find the DSL light on but no internet, checked the router and it was synced but the router had no IP address. I rebooted it, worked fine first time, 5 minutes later the PPP connection dropped again and the line stayed synced. I had that issue all night, then yesterday it took one reboot and it was fine. Now I came home to find the same situation, but it seems okay for now.

It's kind of like the router is on dial on demand mode but it is set to always on. It happens with telkom and afrihost accounts. Router is a DLink DSL-2750U fw version AF_1.60_R01. Every time I check the logs on it when this happens it says "PPP: Start to connect ... " every 30-40 seconds or so, but never connects.

First time this has happened. Not sure if it's my side or if there's anything I can do about it.
Code:
 Downstream Upstream
Line Coding(Trellis): On On
SNR Margin (dB): 145 140
Attenuation (dB): 440 255
Output Power (dBm): 108 101
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 6560 912
Rate (Kbps): 2048 512
As I clicked post it happened again. This time I just unplugged the phone line and plugged it back in and it connected fine.

Here's the log:
Code:

Phone Telkom (or your ISP if your line is migrated) and ask them to do a port reset. This fixes more than 75% of problems, unless the problem is with your modem, phones, or filters, or other devices connected to your Telkom line.

If your line has been migrated to Afrihost, you can do a port reset yourself using the Client Zone. Pretty cool feature.

If that doesn't help, check out my blog post: How to diagnose ADSL line, speed & stability problems. It could prove useful.

^should probably do that considering we asked telkom to put us up to 1meg in line with the upgrades and instead they put us up to 2meg and phoned my dad and said we would be charged for 2meg. Thanks.
