Anyone else having trouble installing AVG Free 9.0? I'm currently running ver. 8.5, but every time I get past the ver. 9.0 extraction process etc., the installer dies, showing the following error:

Local machine: install actions planned
Installation:
Error: MSVC Redistributables installation failed. Installation of AVG can not continue.

I've tried disabling the running AVG 8.5, but still no luck. I'm reluctant to uninstall 8.5 first, (a) because I'm not convinced that's the problems and (b) because I would then lose all my definitions updates. Any ideas?

Have wasted 6 hours with the same error message displayed on 2 separate laptops running Windows XP.
Actions taken included:-
1. Update XP with all updates
2. Performed all procedures outlined in AVG Knowledgebase for Installation of AVG 9.0
3. Failed uninstall of AVG 8.5
4. Failed Install of AVG 9.0 (x 5)
5. Stripped AVG Directories from Program File Directories between each installation attempt

6. Downloaded Panda Cloud Beta v.09
7. Very Happy

Sorry to hear you gave up on AVG! In my case, as Arthur indicated above, it did turn out to be the need to download (from Microsoft) the MSVC Distributables file, very small and quick, and the problem was solved. A known issue, according to international forums. And worth it -- AVG 9 is clean and quick, and does the job well enough. Looks pretty too....

still need to try this.currently using microsoft essentials and very happy.

This.

AVG has even managed to slow down Firefox since I've had it installed. Its off my pc, and I am very happy with Microsofts Security Essentials.
