Hi for the past couple weeks I have been noticing dropouts on connections with webafrica (netflix, teleconferences etc).

I have been testing over the last few days and noticed that this happens every 10 minutes for exactly 10s, a colleague of mine also on webafrica in durban has noticed something similar.

Whats really interesting is that it is not all connections.

For example I open two windows - ths one pinging 216.58.223.26 continuously and the other pinging 216.58.223.132 continuously (both google IP addresses in USA).

Every ten minutes the 216.58.223.26 connection will drop (and so will a lot of other services I am using) for a total of 10-12 seconds, but during this time I see replies coming from 216.58.223.132. After 10 seconds the 26 address replies again.

Would be interested to know if anyone else in Durban (or elsewhere for that matter) is seeing this too?

Webafrica sent a openserver guy to my house who said that the line is fine but I expected this as some connections are working. I don't know what webafrica is going to to from here.

I used an axxcess prepaid adsl account last night on my router and it worked fine so it looks like a webafrica issue to me.

Run some WinMTRs and post here.

Howsit,

I am based in Durban, exactly the same thing is happening to me and a friend also in Durban. Getting the right line speed but the line drops every 10 minutes or so.

Getting 2% - 4% loss on fibre.

so Frustrating!

Exact same thing for me too, last week or so. Sent in a ticket this morning actually and even described it exactly as you did - every 10 odd minutes for 10-20 seconds. No other account does it, just the WA.

In Margate

Cool so it seems to be an epidemic problem - spent the night on my prepaid axcess adsl account (on the same fibre router as webafrica) and no issues the entire night.
Back to Webafrica and I leave two windows pinging 216.58.223.132 and 216.58.223.26 and every ten minutes this drops for 10s. During this dropout some other services work though so it seems that somewhere in websfrica a router is denying some destinations and not others. I even tried global IP's outside of SA and some work some dont so it is not a international link thing. When it dies a traceroute fails at every node except my gateway so I am sure that points to a webafrica issue as well.

I will see if they can resolve this otherwise I will start to look at another ISP, cant even open a chat with webafrica now, you have to talk to their stupid bot Willie who doesn't know ****.

I suggest everyone with this issue open a ticket, if it is reported from enough sources then webafrica will do something about it.

It is causing me to be less productive working from home (remote connection drops every 10 minutes) and my son is complaining that he gets dropped by fortnight every ten minutes too. Not to mention the missus and the Netflix stuttering she keeps on getting.

Yeah I did log a ticket but it seems their staff are as effective as Willie....

Yeah jees that Willie is useless - they may as well just have a FAQ it would be a lot faster. It was a lot better when you could actually chat with a human that was technical.

Now you just the usual telephone support asking you to reboot your modem and ONT and wait 5 minutes no matter what you tell them.

Any change for you guys? I noticed it went away last night but seems to be back to rubbish today :/

Yes it was really good last night and today it seems to be back but not as regular as before, I am now getting outages at varying times and for varying durations. I am still basing it on pings to the two google addresses I mentioned above. I watched those timing out through a vnc session while at work on my phone - so my connection was up as I could VNC into the home machine but the pings to those two addresses were failing.

This is the reply from Web Africa,

Thank you for your patience.

Our systems engineers have advised that they have increased our capacity and you should no longer experience this issue. Could you please advise from your point on the following;

I am still getting 1% loss to www.bbc.co.uk

I can game but feel the jitter every now and again...

Ja it def has improved (again) and luckily can game decently again ...... odd wobble that was

Anyone noticing this again - seems really bad last couple of days

thought i was the only one till i saw this thread, it happens from time to time but over the weekend it was terrible. had to power reset the ONT.

i know webafrica is moving over to a new networking, maybe they are busy migrating. do some traceroutes and see if you on the new network will give you a 102.x.x.x ip
