Anyone still experiencing slowdown?

Im used to download speeds of average 14Kb/s connecting on Tower 126
past two days only average 2.5Kb/s... Not happy at all at this stage.. Hope we can enjoy "Broadband" again soon..

Well. Mine is so bad now, that I cant even open international Webpages , while downloading the AVG update at 3.1 Kbps(Normally 10+kbps easily)...

slowly entering that state of panic where im starting to wonder why im paying R850 each month for the next 2 years....and it was so Decent recently....but the last 2 weeks connected to 36 has been horrid... /sigh [V] [V] [V]

It's fuc...ing slow, ok. Sentech must wake up. 64K ISDN is quicker than this cra.p. Speedtest, fuc. the speedtest, even this forum now takes a couple of seconds to load.

Hmm. so there is still a slowdown - and I thought it was just me. Things do seem to be better now. Im starting to think maybe its not entirely Sentech's fault. They still have some explaining to do. I suspect there is some kind of virus or something in their routers. It should not just suddenly become slow without warning for any reason. As yet, nobody has received any email about the current slowdown (in the form of announcements on sentech email address)

my speeds and browsing are a lot better but it still seems a tad sluggish (like 80-90% of normal) but still after the last few days it is a lot better. So now I can get some value for my R22 a day hopefully. Its friday tomorrow so I'm expecting their to be some sports event at loftus which means downtime for us in Pta.

Yea, I'm with you AfterMath this is getting rediculous now,

There has got be some kind of reason for the current speeds, if they at least kept us informed, and gave us a time frame for when things should improve... Damn they better improve.

Come on chaps, get your **** together.

Phone support. They will tell you to wait till morning then phone them again (for a ticket). Then they will tell you to wait out the day and so on and so on. Nothing is being done it seems. This is pretty crap for a service that normally works so well. All the new customers are dropping like flies.

Anyone else realised that the TV ads have *suddenly* stopped showing? OR is it just me...

Yeh, wait till morning, wait for Sentech's accounts department to pay IS. Wait for IS to switch the switch back on....

hey hey

Apparently sentech got owned my sasser worm, so we gonna have to wait it out, knowing any company in SA we gonna be waiting for like 2 weeks [B)].

Dr4k out

Yeah I also noticed the TV ads are gone.

And my speed is terrible.

I got irritated with the guy I called tonight at the sentech helpdesk, and I eventually just said to him, "Look, you obviously don't know what you're talking about, please put me through to the technical department".

But alas, the technical department was magically in a meeting.

EDIT: *ANOTHER* two weeks?

I have figured out the problem in my case and it was not a virus. Sorry guys.

For some reason I was dropped and reconnected to 2506MHz where I normally connect to 2518MHz. So I have come to the realisation that it is the particular 2518MHz sector giving me hassles. The 2506 was working fine. For some reason after 2 fast hours online again I got the "Loss of coverage, please improve modem signal" error and it reconnected to 2518 which is slow again.
There could be some interference at 2518 in our area.

so...
I just got off the phone with support - a 26 minute phone call trying to explain this whole sector-on-the-tower concept. I even sent the guy to proasms site for tower info so he could understand what I meant. I pretty much forced him to log a ticket since I reckon this is a real problem that needs fixing. He seemed reluctant at first to put in the ticket.

He told me that 2nd level support also works 24 hours. Thats good to hear if it is in fact true.

Maybe this applies to other towers? It does in my case so you better look into this. I will report back if there is any change. So maybe it isnt IS's fault after all.

Well, I know my machine inside out. I've been in the computer business for over a decade. I KNOW my machine. Not in the biblical sense you understand, but I'm up to speed with my rig.

I have no known viruses, no spyware. I run ad-aware and S&D Spybot regularly with the latest updates. My OS is up to date with the latest sp and patches. All my drivers are up to date. I've tried it with firewalls up and AV on, and with both off. The temperature of this room is just right, and the moon is in optimal position. I'm holding my lucky rabbit foot, touching wood, crossing my fingers and toes, making a wish upon a star, praying and having faith, with garlic around my neck, standing under mistletoe... and oh, LOOK!

...still blazing a trail at 2.5kb/s

I'm so very tired of being on hold.

hey, dunno what the prob is but it better be fixed soon, else i might as well connect my 56K again, it'll be faster than this, takes about 5 min to load ANY page, if it actually doesn't timeout, connecting to tower22 in pta, tried mailing the support many times to no avail, they just try work their way outta the problem... oh well here's hoping to a fast fix...

GFZ,

Just got off the phone with support - they're definitely having a problem with some tower sectors - I don't think it's a frequency interference thing though. The guy told me they're having a problem with the 2530 band on tower 36, which is the one I'm connecting to.

He says 2nd level support is on the case... for what it's worth anyway.

What worries me is that it's been this way for days.

I'm on 128K package on Tower 50 Northcliff.

Hey guys,

Your speed is: 12.19 KB/s
The test took 43.883 seconds to complete

finally lost my cool with sentech support today and mentioned getting guys together in a representative action group to give Sentech (or is that SINtech) a wakeup call.

Anyone keen on that?

Hows this one guys:

I went to Sentech ''feedback'' to give them my er ...satisfaction report-

the login doesnt even work ,its just for show !

Question-why haven't SINtech has the decency to publish a press release on their website ,apologising for the severe inconvenience that we are paying for?
