Anyone still experiencing slowdown?

OMW this is sooo Megawan all over again.

Two words can define you're current predicament: BAD MANAGEMENT

Hopefully this is just a temporary situation, and I'm proven horribly wrong.

I'm on the Sentech 128K option and it only takes a few seconds to load pages, and I have no speed problems or disconnect problems, so *obviously* not everyone is experiencing these problems .. so let's not all jump to conclusions just yet about Sentech falling apart or being the new MW.

I think it would go a looong way if Sentech could just provide an explanation for whatever is causing the problems, and roughly how long they expect it to take to be fixed, that would help prevent paranoid rumours from flying around, not to mention the general unfair negative PR they get from the forum users who seem to post about every tiny hiccup on their connections.

Since not everyone is experiencing the problems, I say just be patient and give them the benefit of the doubt for now. This is a new (and complex) service, so there are going to be 'teething problems' in addition to the normal types of service disruption that occur *anyway* on the Internet (e.g. bandwidth-hungry Windows worms, routers getting stolen in NY, groups illegally transmitting on Sentech's frequencies, and so on). A few days of slow speeds for some users is not a "bandwidth disaster".

Agreed in principle - I very much dought there's any financial issues with Sentech right now. Just because your not seeing adverts on the TV, that means nothing. Advertising campaigns come and go.

But lets face it, it's not you that's been having problems for the past 5 days, is it, so you would obviously take this stance. [;)]

Wow - Calm down there !
The only thing that isn't happening is that we're not being informed of the situation.

As far as we know, there is a problem and Sentech isn't trying to screw anyone, spreading false rumours doesn't help the situation.

Having said that, if the problem persists into next week with no explanation, I'll be having a nice little chat with my bank ...

I have had Sentech for almost a Month now. This is the Summary and tell me how you would react.

member of Sentech for 3 weeks now :

1 Week great.
1 Week Tower 36 was down.
and now 4-5 Days of horrible service.

so for 30% of service a month at this point in time im Paying R850.

125 replies to this topic in 2 days. I dont think people are just freaking out. I just think people are truly upset about not getting even the slightest sign of acknowledgement from sentech in any way.
Truly, they are not giving us the service we are paying alot of money each month for.

The tower 36 problems were not Sentech's fault, $UNDISCLOSED_ENTITY was transmitting illegally on Sentech's frequencies in the area, and it took them several days just to figure out firstly what the problem was and secondly *who* it was. I don't see ANYTHING unreasonable about Sentech's actions there, and they are certainly NOT at fault for the loss of service in that case - they did everything they could reasonably have done to locate and resolve the problem, you cannot reasonably fault them for that. And the worm DID cause at least a couple days disruption, and now we know at least that there IS some other problem (but don't know what it is). Sounds more like a fair run of bad luck to me than, ugh, "Sintech" "screwing" customers. "Let cooler heads prevail".

Your missing the point Turtle.

What we're upset about is nobody is telling us what is going on

Read a few more threads here and you'll see a statement from someone in the know that implies there's a problem that isn't being sorted out professionally.

That is the point.

Ok so which of the above is to blame for the current problems? Exactly.. if we knew the reason we would be cool with it.

--> I second that. Wait till it takes you 5 minutes to load every page. Admittadly, still way better than no connection to the tower (read: Remote Computer did not &%$%^% respond)

AND can we please state 36 LOCATION. There are a bunch of 36's. Kemo is talking about one of the JHB 36's while Turtle speaks of the PTA 36 (presumably)

As customers we start wondering if there is a 2nd level support..the only link between us (the source of the business and money) is via the outsourced call centre. Its well known that the call centre is not of extremely high standard (BOFHs etc). This gap just needs some better bridging.

Announcements emails, Support forum, network status, (I wish) downtime announcements via sms are all great ideas. Now how do we go about forcing them to be implemented?

now getting 5k a sec d/l guess if this goes on i will have full bandwidth sometime next month, Sentech's silence is worrying. A page with current issues and problems should be accessible to us.
An informed customer is a happy customer.

Glad i got ADSl@home and seven accounts to abuse :)

Can upload at 15k a sec , making fellow emulers happy !!

in chaos all things are harmonious

Thats the weird thing about all this.. the upload speeds are unaffected. At least thats my experience.

I wonder sometimes how that emule can take so many KB/s and give so few back...

Hey guys, this thread has been most informative, thanks for the info, I was going to pick up my modem yesterday, but held back after reading the current threads, thanks for the info, please remember to post when/if this problem is resolved.

bb_matt, By the sounds of turtles posts, specially the one Posted - 05/08/2004 : 19:03:35, it sounds like we have more users than we think about that are in the know, take said post, and replace sentech/their with we/our.

Turtle, its ok if you with Sentech, you can come out the closet. I, and I'm sure most users on the forum will welcome anpther informed soul with open arms.
If I'm jumping the gun and way off, I apoligise. although you can see how one might err on this matter.

No hard feelings[:I]

I've gotten gatvol of this waiting game.

I emailed sentech with an email basically DEMANDING an explanation. I know it's a hopeful thing to do - but I tried to stop them giving me any sort of stupid excuse (it's the worm, it's the CRs), by explaining why it can't be those reasons.

I also emailed the agents head offices to try find out whats going on.

I'll keep you all updated. This is unacceptable.

Good Evening Donovan,

Please ask the users to do a speed test and see what there

speed is suppose to be. Otherwise we will have to open

tickets.

Regards,

Sentech Support

Everyone, do your part. Run a speed test at http://www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/ and email me your results to [email protected]. Please include your NAME, EMAIL, SPEED AND PACKAGE.

(EDITED)

That speed test is between you and Radiokop server which is meaningless.
You need to do the one on MyAdsl's home page Bandwidthplace.com or something.

You are now stiring a hornets nest that support knows nothing about.

Well done Donovan,

Unlike some opinions here, i cannot lie down and be walked over .

I pay for something ,i get it;otherwise my attitude is that i am being stolen from -end of story.

Same with my customers,if we promise and dont deliver ,we get slaughtered.

I agree with Donovan ,lack of accountability by Sintech is disturbing

I got the same email message from them when I complained.
My upload speeds are fine just browsing and downloads are crap.
