AFAIK SAIX's whole sale cost is aprox R60 per gig, and thats why most ISPs sell their 10Gig accounts at bout R600+, but SAOL sell theirs at R350, and they and Openweb are the only ones selling SAIX accounts at that price. And if i remember corectly, someone from SAOL once said here on MyADSL that theyre selling at a loss.
In that case, thumbsup for SAOL and Openweb.
They're consumer loving whores. :D

i always had a telkom acc. so i didn't just sign up.

And proof of concept, i have not been internationally capped for 5 months(dont tell Telkom), and the first three months i was doing 200gigs, and pushing a fully maxed connection, for the month, now, if i seriously feel like downloading, i might hit 100, but for the last two months i averaged 80, by next year april ill probably be below 50. So it shows, the initial hype is wonderful, but it wears off.

Normal ISP's work on a markup of R5-R10 per account, be it 2gig or 10gig account, they dont work on R10 profit for 2gig and R20 profit on 5gig etc.

This is the cruel world of ISP account reselling, you simply cant make buckets full of money, you would just stand out like a sore thumb from the other 1000 resellers.

This is a message I've got on my stats after reset and after X GB traffic (I don't wont to give an additional info to the devil):The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

or prove to them that their age long line of "most people use less than 3gigs" is just another big lie. sort of like is the glass half empty or half full - both arguments are justified

Unfortunately this is one time when Telkom are telling the truth. If they were lying the high cap providers would own the majority of market share ... they dont, not by a long shot.

But then again, telkom did say that a few users use most of the network and they need a cap to make sure the "low-end" users' service isnt degraded.. is that happening?

True I'm not arguing that Telkom dont have access to far more capacity then they provision/budget for. They could easily allow the minority of power users to have their fill without degradation of the total service, but thats a profitability issue.

The fact that their traffic averaging (from Nov) has allowed a some users to utilise copious amounts of traffic means that their average must be < 3Gigs, therefore supporting their claims.

I really dont think its capacity.... its Telkoms definition of "Broadband" thats the problem.

I'm all for Telkom Internet customers raping their lines as hard as possible, if Telkom are failing to implement the cap on their own accounts in order to corner the market make them pay for it.

So would you call an ISP like SAOL a moneyhungry whore, while they're selling 10gig accounts at a loss? Since 1 Nov ISPs make much less than they used to, now you call them moneyhungry whores. Those ppl also need to make some sort of profit to survive, and because of telkom they cant. Allthough there are ISPs like M-Web and Telkom who are moneyhungry whores, but most of the others definetly arnt.
I agree with you 100%. You are fueling the devils fire by moving over to TelkomInternet.

Hey ppl, my TelkomInternet stats have just been reset to zero! I was not one of the ones who had run up 30 or 40 GB this month already (only about 2 GB), but I was considering going hogwild like some of the others for the rest of the month.

Did some of you high rollers also get reset??? And does this mean TelkomInternet have finally fixed their problem. Hope not! 'Spose I scored a bonus of 2GB if that is the case.

32gig here, and my stats havent been reset. So it looks like this isn't the case.

Mine just got reset this morning. A big fat zero i might add.:D

On closer inspection I find that all my records seem to have been wiped - previous months too. In November I did about 50GB (discovered cap wasn't working with about a week to go) and most months before that I hammered out about 20 GB per month by going flat out near the end of each month before being capped. Now there is a fat zero recorded on Sept and Oct, and the page doesn't allow me to look at anything earlier. I have been an ADSL user for about 2.5 years.

Do you think that Napoleon's old quip,

Never ascribe to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence,

is appropriate here? Of course in Telkom's case there is such a delicate balance between malice and incompetence that we shall probably never know....
