I have a question....are we being throttled to an international service....coz i havn't noticed....

Shaped, Throtled whatever you want to call it, if it is Saix and does not say unshaped then yes, you are throtled, shaped.

And you will not notice, unless you try both version, shaped and unshaped.

I believe Geek Wannabe is refering to the state of our connections after we reached our cap limits. I cannot see any indication that we are being throttled. I am currently 2gigs over my cap limit.

:)

Smoke it baby! :D

If my contact is right we only have about 14 or so more days left... :(

Dont you think it will suck if all of us with telkominternet has to then sit along with the rest of SA with hard capping. I don't mind being unhardcapped, even if it is telkom. Ai. HOEKOM!!!!!!!!!

I am telling you, there is a conspiricy agaist me to make me pay for wanting ADSL so badly. Now that I have it I pay dearly....

Best Wishes.

89GB and going strong....:D
Oops sorry, I'm in the UK. ;)

Wishing all fellow Forumites a Merry Christmas !!!
And hoping that next year will bring SA a real ADSL service and reasonable pricing.

Cheers.:D

Okes, will me keeping my router connected, and my pc on, make a diff, cause i got a dlink 504T router, and they tend not to reset, or hang on the same IP for a couple of days, so im just wondering. Cause, i just have to last till monday, coz im over cap, but if i get capped, my dad is gonna kill me!

On ~69GB and disconnected. Just had uname / pword disabled so authing fails. Guess I was handpicked. Yay.

My 2 gig got disconnected on the 14th on 58GB

Is this true? We can go all the way to 200GB? I can't believe it. Has anybody been capped at 3GB?

Capped at 50 gigs. Now back to pathetic IS account. I was just getting used to being "uncapped". I think they just cap people randomly - this story of the 'bigger available pool' of gigs is rubbish if u ask me.

ok, suddenly I don't understand the system anymore......can anyone explain?

To be precise....what is this 'pool' thing....

you're in a pool with other people - say there're 100 people in the pool 300gigs are assigned to them (3 Gigs per person), some people will only use few Megs and you can use 50Gigs for example and get away with it without being capped

the idea is that the pool as a whole should not use more than what's assigned to it, but the individual users may use more (or less) than the 3Gigs limit

at least this is how I understood it

Yep, and of course it's a silly system.

My feeling is they're experimenting to see where they should cap in order to get the overall usage they think they can "afford". I doubt this hand-picking of "abusers" will last long.

Nope I cant see it being that way.

What if 2 individuals in that pool use 200gigs (like I've seen on this forum) everyone will be capped? even if some only used a few megs?

It does not make sense, not even to Telkom itself.

Its just a load of **** this capped policy.

The so called abusers proved in the past 2 months that cap does not make any sense. Life still goes on if you use 200 gigs a month, telecommunications did not come to a stand still in South Africa in November, did it?

So what are the chances that I'll get passed 3gigs without being capped?

Capping is not something new - it's becoming a world trend. I find nothing wrong with capping at all (as been done in the UK by BT - 40GB), what I do have a problem with is ridicules capping (as done by Telkom 3GB WTF).

But then BT didn’t cap from the beginning – they’ve just started – mostly because of “power users” or “abusers” – whatever you want to call them.
Off course you will get people that really need 150+ Gig per month for work, some play or what ever – but then you’ll always get the people that will download as much as they can just because they can – look up all kinds of **** and just download it for the sake of downloading.

Unfortunately it is this people that will be used as an example the next time ICASA have a sit down with Telkom. I can hear Telkom already – “we let them have it for a month and the fcukers went crazy”.

This debate has been done a million times on MYADSL, and I can agree with both sides. You’ll get the guys that really need 250 GIG a month for work and some play and then you’ll get the guys that always storms to the front with “I will download as much as I can because I paid for it” (These are normally the guys that pay R200 to go to a function and argue they must now eat all the “free” food on all the tables – “because I paid for it”).
It’s just a human norm – give some people the little pinkie and they will grab you fcuking arm.

Unfortunately whatever the end result – Telkom will keep screwing us for years to come, and some people will always give them an excuse to use when ICASA is trying to do something.
