Is the game alot like GW where you have to "use this skill or enchantment to keep that one up and that one to keep this one up ect". Hate it big time.

Thinking of buying the game but I dont want something like GW again.

no. there is no air thing to up your air magick and so forth, you get things like hide, climb, recovery....

You should compare AoC with WoW rather than GuildWars. In the end, AoC is doing nothing new or different than WoW. The combat system is different and a fresh change, but the overall "how the game works" is identical to WoW.

Don't go into AoC expecting anything revolutionary [if you played WoW]. The graphics are starting to look better the further i go into the game..there's alot of little gems that come as you play , like being at the bottom of a hill and people running at the top with the sun going down and you see the shadows on the bottom .

The part i do like more than WoW is the world and the theme. In Aoc the graphics are realistic, the world itself is a medievalish theme and walking into towns "feels" real.

WoW at this stage is basically Outlands, and i must say i never really liked the theme, it's all spacy/sci-fi but not quite sci-fi . I mean take Netherstorm add the endless stream of goblins ...dunno just not engaging. I am hoping Blizzard will fix this in WotLk by -returning- to the fantasy theme and focus their sci-fi robot attempts on Starcraft 2 instead.

AoC actually brought my urge to "roleplay" out again, as it's alot more serious.

However if you're simply tired of the typical quest->grind mobs->level up->get skills->next area->more quests->kill more mobs->more skills effect, AoC won't help you here either.

I think this is a game with HUGE potential. It really is a diamond in the rough. However, it is months away from being finished. Far more so than LotRO was at launch. Definitely something to keep your eye on, but not sure that this will be for most people in it's current state.

The Good
*Excellent latency / netcode.
*Combat system is nice and refreshing.
*Collision detection.
*Good graphics.
*Immersive world, good Conan feel to it.

The BAD
--------
*Very, very, VERY buggy.
*Class Balance? What class balance? Leet PvPers don't need no stinking class balance.
*PvP system sucks. Seems to consist soley of Mass ganking (on PvP servers). There is no point, no reward, no skill.
*Community sucks. What do you expect from a game you have to hide away from any toon of a higher level than you all the time?
*Content? Itemisation etc. Lots of work to be done here. The starter island is finished, but little else is even close.
*Grunting NPCs (They haven't done the voice acting past the starter island so everyone grunts and gibbers at you).

Just my 2c worth.

It's only 600x400 or so. Any more scaling and you will miss the view :0

The thing in the middle, it's the "rose" . It's a standard thing , but is by default off . You can use it to click your attacks [i.e. left/right/center] instead of using quick keys. It also show your health vs. enemy health and your shields (defense setup).

still toggling around with rest of things, but i can say this if you don't make ..\Age of Conan\cd_image\Gui\Default\MainPrefs.xml readonly it will change as soon as you enter tortage after you have made your changes - not sure if other cities do same thing

This game rocks hard, im serious, lol, ive never in my life seen any thing being so bugged and loved by its community at the same time.

Honestly, i think world of warcraft is for children and the depressed, guildwars for anime loving emotards, and eve online is the successor to the "watching paint dry" hobby.

If they continue to polish and work hard on this title, and not sell out their maturity rating, it could very well emerge as one of the finest games of 2008.

Its got atmosphere, its got a brilliant plot setting and plenty of room for future expansion.

PS: i really feel that comparing this game to wow is like comparing the movies Disney's Alladin and Heavy Metal (1981). They both are nice, but they both cater for 2 very different markets, Funcom themselves said that they werent trying to wrestle with wow, they knew that the market for wow was someting completely different.
 
Erm... Guildwars for anime loving emotards? I think I'll let that one slide on the basis that you don't know what you're talking about ;-)

In any case, I do agree that this game has got huge potential. I'm loving it less than I did when I started playing, but that's mainly due to the bugs and lack of variety in items, as well as the weird way in which a lvl 10 item can be better than a lvl 50 item.... what's with that?? There are also irritating things like the mounts which don't move any faster than you do on foot, making them basically worthless (And you need a mount - at the moment I'm throwing myself off the nearest cliff or drowning in puddles in order to be able to 'fast travel' by resurrecting). Class balancing is up the pole, and in a really weird twist, it seems that female characters swing at least 50% slower and do less damage per hit than their male counterparts.

All those issues will no doubt be fixed soon, and hopefully the game will shine. Nobody really knows yet how the endgame will play out, and that will make or break it... in theory it sounds awesome - guild cities, raiding, continental pvping. Hoping it all ends up working like it should, but no doubt the developers have bitten off a chunk to chew on.
 
game R270, monthly fee's (if u buy gamecards in SA) is R201 for 2 months. so R100.50 hehe not sure how much if its by credit card on the site
 
How much is the monthly fees, and how much is the game?

Pretty much same as WoW. Almost all MMOs goes for about $15 a month.

I'm not so sure about the mounts. I am yet to see someone with a -horse-. They're expensive and i've seen different horses with different speeds at the vendor...

These free gift mounts [the rhino and the mammoth] i seriously doubt it would be much faster than walking. It's a vanity item and probably will remain as such without any special abilities. It's like the drinking cloak, it's not suppose to give you an advantage..it just looks cool and you get free drinks in taverns...

As for bugs, yea..lots of it, but they fix them fast at least
Latest news on their front page from the dev team, and i think at LEAST they seem to be on the same page as everyone as to what might be problems:

Our focus from now on can be summarized by these points:

1. We will add content, specifically in mid-late thirties and mid-late fifties and make the leveling speed smoother in those areas, reducing the need to grind.
2. We will have an overhaul of the PvP system – adding consequence and a host of small things.

3. We are fixing bugs you reported through all channels we can get information from.
4. We will add a new large outdoor region in the 55-60 range this summer!
5. This is only a small taster! More information about the exciting summer and fall Roadmap will come the end of the next week!
6. We are staffing up Customer Service, Quality Assurance and Community departments!
 
ok this seems to yield the best results for my pc overall, but i stress that this graphics engine surely needs a good tuneup and memory handler a rework.
