My APC BX700UI battery died - need to find a replacement - I see it currently has a CSB GP 1272 f2 battery, which seems to be a standard alarm battery - can I just buy any 7.2ah 12v alarm battery as a replacement?

The battery is literally just to give the systems time to shutdown if the power is out for more than 5min (Microserver, NAS and router)

These lithium Iron ones are the ones to buy these days.
There was a thread about them somewhere.
I got two for R999 each.

Surely the charger will just blow that up?

Yup. Anything in the same size with same voltage and amperage will be fine.

That is what some said, and I asked back in this thread.

Mine work fine so far.

Another thread

There are a few other threads.

I'm not always home to switch off the pc, and after a month or so of load shedding 3 or more times a day, the regular alarm battery quits.

Think the lithium one will be overkill for my use case. I literally just need time to shutdown.

If you are home to shut it down then no problem.

I had one ups for the modem and two for the pc’s, so was replacing batteries every year.

I got access to the UPS via USB cable - so don't need to be home... figured the battery was shot when my server started shutting down randomly.

Deltec in Milnerton or a home security shop should have them, was R300 odd last time I bought.

If it takes as standard lead acid battery you could just pop in a standard 7AH battery or you know you could go bigger? like 18, 24 AH+ (or if you really nuts 100AH) but just note it only has like a 1Amp charger so that will take a while to recharge

Just buy the same battery you had. For APC, they use CSB. I replaced some of mine with the same capacity which I got by googling CSB battery and then phoning a bunch of places until I got the cheapest price.

Easy peasy.

Awesome - battery arrived - but - as soon as the power is restored, and the system starts up, the UPS drops power.

So are you saying something is wrong with it?
No idea. Definitely not supposed to do that.... Not sure why it happens after power is restored.

If I put the old battery back, it's fine again. But the old battery is borderline dead, about 2min of life.

Returning it and ordering the CSB battery, will just have to wait the 8 or so days

Just ordering two of these: https://www.takealot.com/forbatt-lead-acid-rechargeable-battery-7-2ah-black/PLID40402102

Tried to find the CSB in stock - but - none found - and with the return of loadshedding - need one yesterday.

Also - Deltec aren't getting back to me... bought from them before.

So even the one used in the alarm didn't last - two sessions of load shedding and it wouldn't charge above 11.6v - returned and refunded.

Bought 2x CSB batteries, and they're working 100%.

Will defintely avoid the above brand in future.

Same conclusion in this thread:

It seems they are not true "drop-in replacements".
