Apple adding FLAC support with iOS 11

Just whispering “Android” in his ear gets him going...

Lol Android had that since 2011. Just another reason why fragmentation is not a big deal on Android.

We’ve had ALAC from the start before Android even existed, so we don’t really need FLAC at all.

Android only added FLAC support in 3.1 and still doesn’t natively Support ALAC as far as I know.

So who is really more open and/or ahead of the game?

Just a pity no one uses it.

Just like nobody uses FLAC then...

Always astounds me how your incredulous bias only applies to your own little world.

People who like and use Apple and also want Lossless have used ALAC for years.

Just because you don’t do Apple doesn’t mean nobody else uses it.

A serious question : how does one get ALAC?

They don't stream or even sell it on iTunes?

Don't see much Alac files on torrent/file hosting sites.

Rip it yourself with iTunes.

Apple stopped selling Lossless because their iTunes Plus format is so good that nobody notices the difference.

That’s because you aren’t paying for your content then...Maybe Apple folk aren’t filthy pirates.

Shame man. Must be terrible to be such a strong Apple supporter and Tim Cook didn't thank you personally on stage.

I doubt thats the reason, as there definately is a difference.

More than likely Apple folk aren't generally audiophiles and more into expensive lifestyle brands like Beats and Bose where the difference isn't noticable.

Even when comparing audio quality on the various streaming services, those then stream FLAC are reviewed as having better audio quality.

Bookmark this post though :

Apple will release lossless streaming in the next few years ( when everyone is on the next best, MQA). At that point, we will hear how the technology was never matured before .... and only when Apple offered, was it viable. Again, Apple nailed the timing too a tee!
