I’ve just bought an iPad and I’m wondering if people use the same Apple ID as their phone, or make their phone and iPad part of a family, but use independent id’s . TIA!

Yeah. It's like your Google account. You use the same account throughout your devices.

You’ll loose much of the benefits around the ecosystem by using separate IDs

How much you want for it?

My client's.

Guy has an iPad, 2 iPhones and a Windows machine.

All 3 devices are fingerprint activated. He has access to his iCloud account.

He knows the passcode to the iPad and iPhone, just not the other iPhone.

There is no way to bypass the passcode on the one iPhone without doing a whole restore. Can't even try guess the password, because the device keeps disabling itself when you want to try variations of the only password he uses in his life. He selected the fingerprint option so that he wouldn't have to remember a passcode in the first place.

After inconveniencing him and telling him to restore/wipe the phone, still have to update the iTunes store app to the latest version. Now his Windows machine is blocking the upgrade because it requires access to the Microsoft store because of Group Policies and the app can't do it itself.

Just holy sht.

Again,

"Which apple id would you like to use? Enter password"
"This one"
"Which backup would you like to use? Enter password that you entered 5 seconds ago AND authorize it from another device now this time."

Exactly like it says in the docs.
