Hi All

I've got a 4mb ADSL line and my ISP is Web Africa, I use an iMac, Macbook Pro and a pc to connect to the internet.

Whenever I use my iMac or Macbook and try to connect to the internet I have to try anything from 2 - 40 times before it will actually connect. I've reported this to Web Africa, who in return logged calls to Telkom on several occasions but still no one is able to sort it or has an idea what's going on. When I use the pc it connects first time without any issues.

I've tested the iMac and Macbook on another ADSL line and it works fine. I've also tested a friend's iMAC on my ADSL and he is also unable to connect. The Telkom guest account also fails to connect.

I then installed Windows 7 on my iMac via bootcamp and configured the internet on it, and strangely enough it works just as good as on the pc itself, it connects first time without issues.

To summarize, Apple devices with OS X struggle to connect to the internet on my ADSL line.

Perhaps I should also add that this phenomenon started when Telkom announced that they're going to upgrade their exchanges to 10mb. I was once able to connect without issues.

Is there somebody out there that might have an idea what could be the cause of my problem?

You haven't mentioned what adsl router/modem you're using.

I'm currently using a SMC 7904W, but I've also tried a D-Link (can't remember the model though). My iMac + both these routers work on another ADSL line.

Maybe ask telkom to drop your sync speed down a notch and see if that helps.

It works on windows tho, that isnt likely to be the problem.

Have you tried making your router dial and just plugging into it ?

Hi Guys, I eventually managed to kind of sort out the issue I had.

I spend today trying to do what Phiber has suggested - setup the router so it automatically dials. For some strange reason this didn't want to work when I setup it manually, so I went back to the basics and started off with the basic "setup wizard". The results was exactly the same as what I've done manually but nevertheless..when I tried using this to auto dial it still didn't want to connect even on the pc, although in the router status it said that it's connected also showing the correct IP's etc. of the ISP.

I then tried to dial from my pc as I did previously with the bridged connection whilst being on this "auto dial" setup and it actually connected. I then turned to the MAC's and also dialed from them using this "auto dial" setup and surprisingly it connected. I can now connect without trying over and over and over.

I'll leave my setup as it is, although I'm still baffled as to how it's working...

Anyways thanks for everyone's input...
