Have any iphone 4 users upgraded and used their phones yet? If so should I be upgrading or waiting as do not want to destroy device with iOS which makes it limp along.

I have a 4s and does the same apply?

I upgraded my daughters 4 last night.
Didnt spend much time testing but it looks fine

One thing to look at
- Spotlight search goes and re-enables all the categories you may have disabled. This means that email, smses etc get constantly indexed. That must affect performance?
If I want to search emails I go into email.

In fact a too wide search is a pain because there are screens of hits before I get to what I want

So I heard that the new "background updates" is killing the battery life of your device (older models). Anybody that can comment on that?

If that is the case I don't think I want o upgrade just yet

That is correct...my iPad 2 battery is terrible since the update. probably 4 times faster battery drain :-(

Mmmmm, k. There known battery drain issues when restoring from backup more specifically when the backup was done on a different version of iOS to what has then been installed.

Is it worth doing the upgrade on a iphone 4, or am I going to have issues. Its my wife's phone and the last thing I want is her complaining (MORE)...haha

Thats the cool thing, my 3 year old phone feels like new

Just remember to sync and backup first. You never know with updates (murphy and all). But I didn't have any issues with my iPhone4, wifi, apps all works fine. It even kept my bluetooth device settings.

My Music app is listing albums, rather than putting them on a grid (iPad). Does anyone know of a way to change it back {without reverting to iOS 6 }?
