Apple iOS7 arrives

To every iOs 7 user who just updated,

Welcome to Android 2.3 gingerbread, we hope you enjoy all your "new" feature and look forward to hearing you freak out about how "innovative" the quick settings menu is and how "game breaking" the recent apps feature is.

Those were actually my first thoughts when I played around with iOS7 this morning after it had downloaded overnight...it looks, feels so much like Android "Ice Cream Sandwich". Menus are definitely faster, and I like the fact that they've finally come around to "double pressing" the navigation key to fully reveal all the open apps, and easily switch between windows...you could do it before but you couldn't see the windows.

Where iOS7 beats Android hands down is the stability out of the box...no crashes, no freezing- it just bloody works.

You'd be so right if only Android wasn't still a bucket of ugly.
.

it is only "a bucket of ugly" if you cannot customize it to your own liking, and you know what? I can put a skin on to make it look like iOs 7, I would not but I could if I wanted to.

just because a house looks ugly when it is not pained does not mean after the initial paint job it will still be ugly.

I still don't understand what these crashes are? i have never had an android (other than Honeycomb on the first series of tabs) crash on me. I have pushed a phone to limits and have it crash one app, but I have never experienced a android version of blue screen on death. the way people carry on about it it sounds like this happens every 5 seconds.

just for reference when I pushed my phones to limits and it died it was truly pushed. usually uploading a open office document, playing music, playing a high def game and then going, mmm, what is the capitol of Bolivia? (or equivalent silly thing that I need to Google) normally I just open up Google now and use the voice prompt to do the search. going back into the game sometimes would cause it to force close.

and that has also not happened since I went to jelly bean 4.2 even on my old S2.

+1 but the main thing is if an app force closes on android it shows you a popup saying it had a force close. On iOS your app just disappears, but then iOS (at least was) more made for it because before they had multitasking apps would always open on the "home" screen of the app anyway.

I didn't want this to degenerate into a flamewar.

After 24h with iOS 7 I'm bored with it already. Just not enough in there. Mostly just new pajamas. This time I didn't come along with the beta process and kept the "Wow!" right to the end ... but it feels like fireworks that got wet ... a phoofffffff instead of a bang! Maar nou ja ... I guess the real changes are under the hood somewhere.

Friend at work updated his iPhone 4.....animations are SLOW and CHOPPY! He's seen it run on the 5 and it was much smoother.

+1

I think since Jellybean, Android has become rock solid. Haven't had any issues with my Nexus 4, can't wait for some KitKat!

It's new pajamas, yes. I don't really know what you expected them to do in the space of 9 months but it seems like a major change in the feel of it to me. I like the visual consistency of it; things exist in a logical place along the depth z-axis. You zoom into and out of apps, you bring the control centre and notifications visibly over the homescreen; you flip horizontally across a plane of open apps in multitasking. It's a very solid methodological basis for future design.

I updated my phone yesterday but found that this affected my Whatsapp. The icon is greyed out so I am unable to use from the screen, however when I go into the App Store and go to my purchased apps, I am able to open the app from there. Can anyone advise how this can be fixed as I am unable to even delete the app and reload.

I got iOS 7 on my iPhone 4 this morning. It is a bit premature after only playing with it for an hour or two, but first impressions are that it is boring. I use notes a lot, and I hate the current white paper with boring fonts. Also, the important data at the top of the phone is difficult to see (signal/battery etc) - it was better on a black background.

I will hold fire on updating to iOS 7 on either of my two iPads. BTW anyone know if it is possible to go back to iOS 6 ?

Yeah, upgraded this morning and I like the looks of it much more than the previous versions. Although, I did mention to my friend that I can't help but feel like "I've seen this before".

The initial setup screen feels very Windows Mobile (the big, simplistic text with plain white background) and then the UI looks so much like Android in a way. Not that I'm complaining, I mean it looks good. But I do hope the fanboys don't come out with the "Apple is so innovative" crap because you have to be blind to not see the style/looks rip-off.

I don't think iOS7 is particularly innovative. There isn't a single item in there that I haven't seen elsewhere. The multitasking cards was originally WebOS, went via Android (verticalised) and back to horizontal in Apple. Splitting the control centre and notifications is a nice idea to save on clutter but it doesn't revolutionise anything. It's more about the implementation of it and the attractiveness. The animations are much deeper and more integral to the entire UI than anything in other mobile OS's.

Yes indeed so on the ip4.
In fact I would rather use the old versions 6.x. Now too late.. O:( Its not nice.
It makes the ip4 not nice to use anymore.
I am not sure what to do.. sell the ip4(s) or wait for a solution to downgrade.
It hangs at times but for just too long.
Its slowing me down.

On the plus side works beautifully on my ipad2

Is strange that the iPad2 is ok but the iPhone4 struggles?
