Apple iPhone 11 review roundup

Apple recently launched its new iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max devices, refreshing its lineup of flagship smartphones.

The devices launched in the United States last week, and reviews of the new handsets have now begun to flood in from international publications in the US and Europe.

Especially on the camera side - every other brand is full steam ahead and improving the camera, while Apple use their familiar snapper. I can't remember a time when Apple was ahead of the camera pack, but I hope the iPhone 11 can at least match what's out there.

As for the A13, hope it can actually perform as well. A12 has fantastic benchmarks and was 30% more powerful than anything on the planet... Yet it couldn't navigate the phone or open 3rd party apps quicker than old Kirin980 running at 90%.

It seems to be the case, finally. Most reviews are putting it ahead of other phones for camera performance. Of course, Pixel 4 is just round the corner.

As for the A13, hope it can actually perform as well. A12 has fantastic benchmarks and was 30% more powerful than anything on the planet... Yet it couldn't navigate the phone or open 3rd party apps quicker than old Kirin980 running at 90%.

Oh yeah those 'who can open apps faster' tests on YouTube, always the most objective way to measure performance.

Lol, well the A13 isn't a lot faster than the A12. Seems like they took a victory lap this round and boosted the battery life by 4-5 hours. Anyway, I won't be getting the 11 Pro as I have an XS. I'll get the 12 Pro or whatever the hell they call it, in 2021.

You don't feel a real world test with opening apps / navigating / Face ID / boot ups etc is more real than Tim Cook telling you it's the fastest processor ever ?
15% faster / 40% efficient / 6 trillion transistors ... and Apple think you'll love it?

Battery performance in general on previous iPhones was dismissal in comparison to flagship Androids ... slow at charging (wired and wireless), small capacity batteries yielding a 30% less 'on' time. I'm hoping that the iPhone 11 can at least match some of the phones from last year.

6 phones below ... with iPhone coming it at 6th and 4th.

Though any iPhone battery video is going to give you similar results

In actual tests the A12 is significantly faster than the Snapdragon 855 and crushes the Kirin 980. Areas where it matters are for example in video recording, gaming, rendering HTML, even in maps.

Yeah I'm glad they actually decided to go backwards on weight and cut out some components to make the battery bigger this time around. I'd be willing to give up some ergonomics for a better battery.

I think we see things very differently

I'm not impressed by the meaningless little numbers that I see on the screen, or Tim Cooks keynote figures / percentages or even articles from Cult of Mac ... I am impressed at what the phone does when it's in my hand. I am impressed by how fast it feels. I am impressed with it opening apps (I use Facebook / Instagram / Spotify etc). I am impressed by how fast my Face ID unlocks my phone.

And even though your A12 'crushes' my Kirin980, I can do 80% of tasks faster than you. If I run full capacity, I can probably do 90% of tasks faster than you.

That's why I call it the fastest, slowest chip ....

Right video - but open it in YouTube and read the user comments.

Many of those guys have come from iPhones and disagree'd with his comments on the Huawei. I'm also pretty sure that DXOMark listed that as #1 camera .... and EISA gave it Smartphone of the Year for 2019.

I've just come back from Europe and my family have iPhones (7 / 8 / XS Max) - none of them could take the photos of old churches because of lack of the wide lens. Inside the churches with low light, again - they battled trying to take. And at the end of the day, their batteries all died and I was designated photographer and Google Map person.

iPhone 11 is probably going to be better - but tryng to compare an iPhone XS to a P30P on either cameras or battery, is a little silly (I think)

The below are filtered Instagram photos that I merged with Paint now ... but none of the iPhones could get the buildings ... the night streets ... the church interiors ... the birds.

We tried taking a selfie on an iPhone 7 and it totally burn out the highlights on the white church behind us - we were visible in an almost full white frame. My Huawei did the same at first, but clicking HDR on meant I could get the selfies. I just feel a P30P vs iPhone XS camera can't really be compared. And here they're praising the iPhone ... yet other sites are either the Huawei or the iPhone, but quantify the reasons and it wins by a hair.

Based on this video, he doesn't seem objective - but happy to watch a few others.

Interesting to note that the Kirin980 is throttled there as well ... not even running at full performance?
Is this the formal way of running iPhone performance tests?
I'm not sure if they do this on purpose, or if they just don't know the phone?

I don't know my iPhones ... Is that A12 going as fast as possibly it can ?
There's no mode to make it faster than this video? The final test as we see is a throttled Kirin980 vs A12?
And it the A12 still can't open Facebook, Starbucks, Word, Excel, Camera or Snapseed faster than a throttled chip?

I think in summary, the iPhone XS wasn't as good as people thought ...

It really wasn't as fast to use ... the battery was bleh ... the camera OK .... the charging urgh ... it' something I recommend to those that don't need cutting edge technology on their phone. It's not a bad phone - it just can't do anything particularly well.
