I think people really just want the bumpers cos theres such a lack of good iphone 4 cases here in SA! Id gladly pay for one if I could get my hands on one. The cover I bought doesn't even fit the phone nicely, went back to return it and not one was decent.

In fact the free case did affect my decision to buy, it affected the timeing of my decision. The free case program is only valid for people who buy their phones before 30 Sep, I took my contract 2 weeks early to ensure that I could get the phone buy that date so that I could take part in the program. For two weeks I've paid both MTN and Cell C subscriptions just so that I could get the case. If they had told us that the case was not available to South Africans I would have waited.
The free cover forms part of the value proposition.

Well, both.
Functionally because I've never owned a phone that hasn't been dropped during the two years that I've owned it and a matter of principal because why should South Africans be excluded from a well documanted offer the rest of the world can take part in.

And why wouldn't you want to get a free bumper if it's available? I really don't understand some of the posters on this forum's issues. If you don't want a free bumper (or whatever the thread might be related to) stay out of it. People visiting this thread are most likely looking for information about the Free Cover Program, not some philosophical debate about another persons feeling of entitlement.
I'm guessing it is similar.
I supose it does look petty when we are fighting over something that costs R40, but the apple bumper is $30.

I'm talking about Digg or Reddit, both of those love jumping on Apple stories. Maybe talk nicely to rpm and see if he can't get an article done on this, that would get the SP's attention.
That's my biggest problem with the whole bumper issue as well.
We always tend to get screwed over in SA, whether it is not being able to download the free DLC that ships with XBOX360 games or not getting free bumpers from Apple.
So people get pissed off and try to claim what shoudl be rightfully theirs.
This is not about being petty or too stingy to get a cover after spending 7-8k on a new iPhone. This is about the fact that we all know that all over the world people get free bumpers with their phones, so we feel entitled to get a one as well. And the fact that cellphone companies in SA are ignorant about the issue does not help much either. I'm sure that if before the launch of the iphone Vodacom and MTN made statements saying that SA users do not qualify for a free bumper, everyone would have been pissed off, but at least there would have been some clarity on the issue.

I basically went back to MTN to get the iPhone 4 before the September 30 deadline, if not for that I would have waited for VC to get stock again.
You guys should've done your research first. Apple does not exist in SA (only 3rd party importers) thus Apple is obviously not gonna extend their case program here. Simple as that.
Guessing it's miscommunication again - Vodacom is pretty good at not communicating... If you asked most stores a month ago what the iPhone 4 was they were totally clueless...

Back on topic:
I've sent an email to Vodacom customer care to ask about the bumpers and they've asked me for more information on the bumper. So it seems like they haven't really been informed about this.
I've sent them some information about it so hopefully they get back to me shortly. Or perhaps they will hold out until after midnight
The vodashops do now have the "bumpers" in store, they are not the apple ones though. Personally, I find them flimsy and ugly and wouldn't want to put it anywhere near my iphone 4. They will probably last a month and lose their shape. The packaging says it is supplied by celcom, so obviously Vodacom paid for the bumpers. It's just a piece of flimsy rubber that goes around the edges of the phone, so won't protect your screen. If you got your iphone from a Vodacom store then go back and request the bumper. Personally I wouldn't waste the petrol.
