It's iOS6 minus some features. It isn't iOS5. It's supporting hardware that they stopped even making, which nobody else can be bothered to do because they just want users to update to the latest profit-generating hardware. One can try to undermine that fact in lots of petty little ways, but it remains an impressive aspect of Apple's customer support.

I don't get peoples obsession with updates,yes some are worthwhile but most just have a few small incremental changes that hardly affect your life in any meaningful way.Ok besides maybe stuff like the new maps on ios 6.0 which I'm afraid of for now.

From about android 2.2/2.3 android has been full of features and didnt really lack anything that ios updates bring so your point in absolute terms doesnt make much sense.Anybody with android 2.2/2.3 and above should have all their needs covered even more comprehensively than ios,i still cant get an app for swype on my iphone 4s,now that IMO would be more useful to me than an upgrade to ios6 and yet androids already have this.

Well, I re-updated my SGS rom to the latest nightly cm10 build last night and it's like I'm sitting with a new phone. It's much smoother compared to the previous build - and there simply isn't any comparison with Gingerbread. I can't see a single reason Samsung couldn't have supported the update - certainly hardware isn't an issue. And it does matter.

Sales, its all about pushing sales.

If a person can have all the features why the need to upgrade to a new phone. <--- that is something Windows Phone will probably have to fight as well one day at least the WP 7.8/8 debacle sorts out this round.

You must remember that CM10 doesn't have touchwiz which many consider as a +1 because touchwiz makes the responsiveness a bit worse. Samsung also said that the SGS couldn't get ICS because ICS and Touchwiz wouldn't fit on it. That is a bit of a bummer yes. Probably better to stick to the nexus range.
 
Gotta say Samsung touchwiz is ugly though,htc sense is very very far ahead and looks brilliant.
Even sony interface is ALOT better than that ugly touchwiz and with sony they have extra features normally to boot.

I realize that. I'm pretty happy just using CM builds because they're so well supported and I can easily revert for warranty issues. I'm just pointing out that it's not some trivial thing. 2 guys in the office have the SGS and they're both unwilling to flash them so they're stuck with Samsung' gaudy riff on of iOS.

I know it is not some trivial thing, but the SGS is more than 2 years old now, so they should be out of their warranty already. Shouldn't be a problem. Just that flashing isn't as easy as plugging it into kies and updating.
 
They still sell the SGS on contracts, or they've only just stopped. Still better than 70% of Samsung's total Galaxy range.

The latest iPhone 5 defect claim to emerge from the mists is the issue of purple flares appearing in camera images where lighting is particularly bright. The issue was first pointed out in the AnandTech forums, and apparently Apple has acknowledged the issue. Plus looking at testing done by Mashable, the issue seems like anything but an isolated incident.

Some believe it's the sapphire glass covering the camera lens that's causing the problem, but if you look at the comparison images put together by Mashable's Charlie White, things become a bit murky. Indeed in one image, the iPhone 5s camera is much more affected by the purple halo than the iPhone 4S. In comparison image, the iPhone 4S actually suffers more of a purple effect than an iPhone 5. And then in a third comparison shot, in which both images are exposed to direct sunlight, the effect doesnt pop up at all. So who knows.

That said, our editor-in-chief Joe Brown noticed this exact problem happening on his phone, which is evident in the top image. Have you noticed anything strange with your iPhone 5 camera?

There's no denying the superiority of Nokia's phone cameras, however as in most things engineering, there are trade-offs. For someone like me who will use my phone's camera for some occasional snaps/clips, the penalty of a 65% weight increase (iPhone5 vs 920) is not worth the improvement in camera performance.
