Lol. I flash almost daily (for myself and others). Think I could almost do it actually sleeping :D

The next leak for the S3 has just finished downloading, so gonna do that to quick.

What you doing up so late dude? Normally this time of night the only person that responds to me is Elimentals. He has disappeared for a bit though so gotten used to silence :p
 
Don't know if this has been reported yet, but CNN says iPhone 5 preorders are sold out (took just hours)

Normal.

Think about it, there's only one iphone a year, and with a lot of people not opting to upgrade to the 4S, they all had to wait for the next iphone.

Normal reaction, and basically it says nothing. We have that every year from every Apple product release. Create false demand that is all it does. If people see "Sold Out" they want it more than saying there is more than enough for everyone.

It could be 10 or 10 million, they just mark it sold out at a certain number. and ship orders after that a week or month after X date. If I am not mistaken last year people that pre-ordered even got phones a day after the rest that went to brick and mortar stores.

While I agree in principle to what you saying I wonder who in the marketing department decides at what time they should announce that they're sold out? The 4s was "sold out" at around 23 hours, the 5 apparently at 1 hour 43 minutes. Does this early announcement indicate a lack of confidence Apple has in the iPhone 5??

I don't recall if the new iPad pre order allotment was ever "sold out".

Personally I don't believe Apple needs to create any hype to boost sales of their iPhone devices. History has shown that they sell by the millions regardless.

Like I said, give numbers not words. Sold out means nothing, say 5 million sold in 1 hour and 43 minutes not it was sold out cause that without numbers just tells me your Procurement planing department sucks and pegging demand.

Agreed. At the office, I sit in a cluster of 5 devs (myself included). 3 of them have an iPhone 4s and the other a 4. ALL of them are upgrading to the 5.

The odd thing is that myself and another dev at the office (Nokia Lumia 800) were the only 2 that knew anything about the iPhone 5 and watched the event. The guys actually loyal to the brand had no interest in discussing specs or watched the event etc... they just know they want the next one :confused:

Lol dude, blind brand loyalty!! Nokia had that for years and luckily for them. They would have been out of business a lot sooner.

But you telling me you would need to see the specs of the upcoming S4 before committing to buying it? Don't lie!! :p

Or what about the new Audi A6? Would you even need to test drive one to be convinced that you wanted/needed one? Again, I said don't lie!!! :D

I promise I would need to see the specs. No lie. I scrutinise and compare specs. I have gone Nokia, BlackBerry, HTC, Samsung, Apple, blah, blah. Each change in brand was due to specs in the device and functionality. Loyalty does not exist with me (with mobile devices).
I am so keen on the Nokia Lumia 920 and purely based on specs. It looks hot. If WP8 lives up to the hype, I will move again.

Here you got me. When I moved from my previous A6 to the current one, my test drive was just for the sake of it. It was bought when my eyes saw it. And ye, when this one gets tired, it will happen again :D

You could say Audi is the Apple in my eye ;)

I always said I didn't think the iPhone 5 would do as well as the iPhone 4 sales wise ... it'll sell in the millions, but I think the world has realised there are alternatives. I could be wrong though :/

I just see the S3 everywhere and everyone either has or getting one. I went a small braai yesterday and pull out my phone - instantly there are 4 others around me that got the phone within the last 2 weeks and ask how I like it etc.

People like my mother and other less technical folk actually know what a 'Galaxy' is ... whereas before whenever they thought 'fancy phone' they thought 'iPhone'.

Look - I can't wait for shipping and the next 3 months.

I'm yet to meet anyone with an S3. I have seen the one X, note and S2 at work, but not he S3. I don't think it means anything though as your small braai does:D. iPhones everywhere though, a guy sold his note here to wait for the iPhone.

There's no disputing the success of the S3. It's an awesome piece of kit!! Its success largely due to the legendary device that came before it, the S2.

As for there being alternatives to the iPhone, this may be true but none of them run iOS. In my opinion the iPhone actually doesn't have any natural competitors, other than itself. So when consumers get tired of iOS they'll make the move.

If you had a dual boot option with the S3, Android/iOS, different story. Hell, I'd take one of those!!

I was at a parents meeting for my daughters school a couple of weeks ago and the S3's were everywhere!!! S3's, BB's and a few iPhones!!

As I said all that conjecture don't mean nothing. If you go to a mugg and bean on a weekend morning nearly everyone sports an iPhone.
