Apple iPhone 5 unveiled

Apple must not now start to mess around with Higgs Boson. I want to feel Higgs Boson when I hold a phone.

It's odd. the 1st time I picked up the Note in store I thought it was a plastic replica. So light and plasticky and the size, it felt cartoonish and not to scale.

Sorry I'm not being funny here or trolling. I got a fright when the screen started responding to my touches.

EDIT: How's that Note induced hernia of yours Mike? :twisted:

The reason you got the shock was because everyone that's never handled the Note thinks - because of it's size - that it is a heavy device. Its very light ... much lighter than one would think. This surprised me too.
 
I like the weight of the iPhone 4. Perfect. Device should not go much lower than that imo.
 
S3's success is built on the back of the legendary S2. Remember all the negativity after the S3's launch? Yet it is an incredibly competent package and has the sales to reflect that. Once again the rumour mill let the cat out the bag and robbed the event of its wow factor.

So for critics and fanbois alike it becomes a bit of a disappointment but for the masses who are not paying attention to all the hype, they get told here is the next generation S2 and they buy it without hesitation and they happy.

Same s hit happened with Nokia, same s hit happens with Apple, same s hit happens with BB. The net result is brand loyalty.

The problem comes in these manufacturers rest on their laurels and start producing rubbish or devices behind the times, cue Nokia and BB. Once they lose those customers it's a pretty tough job recapturing them.

Is Apple falling behind the eight ball? I don't believe so. Your average joe doesn't feel comfortable with massive change especially when it pertains to a piece of tech he/she is using daily. These incremental advances are more than adequate to keep your average user happy.

Not so the tech geeks, sure, but we in the minority.

As for Apple's obsession with law suits? Again, your average user is oblivious to the moral deficiencies of the brands they support and even those that know rarely care. Every Jew in his German sedan, every Jap restauranter with his American made Taylor ice cream machine. You know who you are....

The geeks don't care about moral issues either. You often see them slamming Apple's moral choices, yet don't care about Samsung's very dubious history of bribing politicians and judges.
What it actually is that now that Apple is so big, it is fashionable to be a hater.
It's like the childish people in the 90's writing MS's initials as M$. It's just fashionable.

I agree with everything else you said however.

Yeah, there seems to be a lot of hate around for Apple (or at least some deep-seated resentment) coupled with a healthy dose of double standards.

I spend a bit of time on Macrumours and I can tell you the "iSheep" on this forum are tepid by comparison. I can understand animosity directed towards some of them they way they carry on but I like to believe the Apple lovers on this forum have a more balanced perspective.

Unfortunately that doesn't prevent irrelevant and pointless posts like this one and page 1 of this thread leaves me feeling disappointed by our fellow forumites. This thread is meant to be a celebration of technology, in an environment patronized by tech enthusiasts and yet, from page 1 it deteriorates into a slagging off contest.

I would consider myself a recent convert to Apple and have been following the various Apple forums, particularly on MyBB, for the past year to skill myself up as the designated IT person in my household!!
I have found myself getting rather irritated at all the brainless/witless comments from the anti Apple brigade that I have to sift through to pick up an iota of intelligence on a given topic.It almost becomes a contest to see which hater can outwit the next one.Also amazed at the pure hatred expressed by some.It has to be said that there are also a few Android fans who venture in here but usually their criticism is constructive and thus welcomed.

Just shows their ignorance though, IMO.

i am missing what he is saying there. is it not just a case of plugging the wireless charging thingy into a wall outlet and away i go?

I guess he wants us to believe it is easier to take out the charger, plug it into a wall, and then plug it into the phone to charge it than just leaving a charging mat plugged into the wall and simply placing the phone down on it to charge, like putting the phone down on the mat and not just on the desk. I guess. ??

In a way I'm glad they didn't go microUSB, it's a temperamental and easy to damage fitting with a limited life span. I would say after the old Nokia mini pin, the easiest fitting to be damaged by user error (normally the user forcing the plug in upside down).

The new Apple fitting which works in either orientation seems a good idea, and having a microUSB adapter then gives the versatility of using a microUSB charger or data lead if/when needed.
 
Anybody on eBay can start bidding for them if you're desperate to get your hands on one. There's a few available and bidding starts at $1000 for a 16GB model
 
Apple never did the same thing that everybody else is doing just because it's a standard. They are happy cut out technologies that are generally considered irreplaceable and develop their own when they feel that they can do a better job. It doesn't always work out and it is fairly arrogant. But that is and always has been Apple.
