Apple iPhone

PEOPLE HAVE CALLED the iPhone the "Jesus phone" - with an appropriate amount of sarcasm. That came about because Apple fanatics in the United States and elsewhere were treating the launch of the iPhone as if it were the second coming of the Messiah. After a year and a few months South Africans can finally buy the much-hyped device. But does it merit the hype and is it worth a visit to your local store?

Another iPhone article... YAY!

Let the iPhone rocks / iPhone sucks wars begin (again)...

ditto...plus they need to stop comparing S.A. to NZ or AUS!
they just want to offer us the least that everybody else has...
instead of offering us the best product they can.

same as Neotel and everybody else, they do "just enough" to be below the other guy.
We need someone to come in with a long term plan, knowing they will sacrifice ARPU for a huge customer base,
by offering great deals for a great price with no lies.

How much easier can the iPhone really make sending an sms? On the last 3 phones that I've owned, sending an sms was as easy as clicking the center button to the left. Hey presto, a new message screen. Unless the iPhone plans to type the message for you, I really think a lot of this is just hype.

Last i heard, the iPhone still couldn't send an MMS?

The problem I have with any Mac product is the same problem I have with the half hour sales pitches they disguise as TV shows. The people selling the product always make it seem as though what you are currently using is from the stone age, as if there is no way you could ever have gotten anything done.

Well yes I can cook perfectly well without the Bauer, I can lose weight just fine without the AbFlex and I can send an sms just fine without the iPhone.

This is getting sad, please, enough iphone now. There's already 20 articles and threads about the iphone, each with the same comments.

Could mybb maybe set up an optional filter on the news section? I know lots of blogs have done this.

And this is a repeat of a previous one, http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=137933, which was locked.

And by the way as for that ground breaking, state of the art, world changing new way of viewing SMS's that the iPhone is meant to have introduced to the world.... I have been using an application called "conversation" on my Symbian phone for around 9 months now which does the same thing!

It really appears that iPhone users, or is it only the reviewers, are totally oblivious to what is already in the market place. And people wonder why us non-fans get annoyed - ignorance causes this! Along with subjective assertions such as this of course : "On the one hand the iPhone is the ultimate mobile data device"

<bias>

The bad news is that in building the easiest phone to use, the Nokia/Samsung/Sony Erricson XXXX also left out a whole lot of stuff. So you can't send MMSs. If you want to send a photo to someone you have to email it. The camera is only 2 megapixels and has no flash, so its functionality is limited. It also can't shoot video. You can't sync it to your computer via Bluetooth. On the XXXX, Bluetooth is intended to connect a wireless headset. Battery life isn't the greatest and if you're planning on using it to send and receive emails and surf the web, you should be prepared to recharge it every night. And it costs nearly 7 grand.

Rather buy an iPhone.

Woohoo +1

Its touch screen is easy to use and even typing on the on-screen keyboard is quick and accurate - once you get used to it.

once you get used to it!!? burning yourself with a match gets easy once "you get used to it"!!

**** phone! worse article!!:sick::sick:

So you guys recommend I don't get one when I upgrade at the end of this month? Hmmm...what to do...

are they still trying to sell these phones? Didn't they become redundant in 1990? :p

No thank u... not one for religion, not one for fanaticism, not one for hype.. And thats what apple is all about, it's about these little faggets who Religiously hang on every word of Steve Jobs. And who go all ape**** whenever anybody points out the flaws in their over priced toys. Sure, I admit if I have the bank I'll buy the up and coming mac book air.(although I'll install Linux which would defy the point completely of buying a mac I suppose, so probably will settle for a toshiba or sumting)
But my point is mac is 60% hype and gloss..40% substance.
So no..iPhone can take a walk, there's a reason why Nokia still has a major slice of the international mobile phone pie, because it simply just is uber.

There can never be enough iPhone threads. The only people complaining are those that fear the extra surface for flack.

In the past it was a tricky business when talking about the iPhone but not anymore. If you want better phone at a cheaper price then get the Nokia 5800.

The only reason the iPhone was made was to make the real makers of mobile devices wake up and smell the coffee. They have done so and therefor we now have better choices.

At the end of the article, the author expresses his concern about 250MB not being enough, I say get a data bundle if you want more, think its then (R0,50/MB) and stop complaining.
Lame IMHO

Thanks for your constructive criticism.

If I said to you that predictive text on a Nokia was great once you got used to it would it procure the same sarcastic, ill informed comment.

As a reviewer I am entitled to my own opinion and you to yours.
It doesn't make your comment any less lame.

Vodacom's 500MB bundle is R20 to R30 more than their 250MB bundle. What's lame is that they didn't make that the default or allow another 250MB for R30.

For the record, I am neither an Apple fanboi or iPhone hater. It's just too damn pricey for me, if I take into consideration what I am willing to do without in a phone. As an all in one device, it's just lacking in too many areas for me to give Vodacom 13k (over 24 months) for it.
