Was the ‘Jesus phone’ worth the wait?

The 16 GB model will cost R2 899 on the new iPhone 500 contract. This contract will cost R925 a month. The 8 GB iPhone will cost R2 189 and 16 GB will be R3 299 on the other packages, known as the iPhone $120 (R450/month) and iPhone $240 (R595/month).

All three packages include 250 MB of data and 100 SMSs. as well as call minutes — 120, 240 and 500 respectively. Once the plan’s monthly limit for data usage has been exceeded, data usage will be charged at R1.50 per MB and standard SMS rates will apply.

Prepaid customers can buy the iPhone outright for R6389 (8GB model) and R7569 (16GB model) — but remember that the handset is data intensive if you’re on pay-as-you-go. South African law prohibits you from network locking a handset so conceivably you can use your iPhone with another operator.

I feel for those prices you could get better.

Phone price is still ok, but those contract prices :eek:

It even had a second coming :p

Still too expensive. Being from Apple and all, I suppose it will do what is expected, although it got hyped too much.

I know Jesus and He wouldn't use a sucky Apple Iphone..... What a ridiculous article heading.

Wish they would sort this out when it comes to routers now! Think NashuaISP and Mweb billion routers here.

Am I the only one that when reading the article got the feel that it read more like a paid advetorial rather than an objective review? Or the writer is a fanboy who would preorder a dog turd if it had the apple logo on it....

I love how people think that the price is acceptable, compared to the price in overseas markets:
Code:
Nokia N82 Apple iPhone 3G
$369 - $399 unlocked $199 8GB, $299 16GB
I suppose that people enjoy being raped just to be a part of the hype, considering that the N82 costs less here.

Exactly what I was thinking, the only barely negative thing was about the keypad... How much RPM?

As an atheist I just found it amusing that the title of the article got more attention in this thread than the phone itself :P

I am not going to answer whether the iPhone was worth the wait or not. That is a personal question.

What I will say is that these 3 phones are definately worth the wait :

HTC Touch HD : http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_touch_hd-2525.php
Sony XPERIA X1 : http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_touch_hd-2525.php
Nokia 5800 XpressMusic : http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_5800_xpressmusic_previewed_and_pictured_seems_cool-news-603.php
And if you could wait a little more there will be a WVGA Nokia as well shortly after the 5800

As a status symbol the iPhone should cost R15.000 or more.
No, that is Carbon Arte teritory :p

This may be because this is thread number 2485 relating to the iPhoney... you can only tell the fanboys so many times that the phone is a glorified iPod before it gets boring.

Definitely not the only one... I thought that Vodacom surely paid for this article to try and sell some of the 29 800 iPhones left... ;)

Oi, I wonder if this phone is seen as a status symbol in the USA?

We here in darkest Africa naturally have to pay an arm and a leg for anything that the powers that be decide to make into a status symbol.

Whatever, more toys for the Joneses to compete with...
